Caberg GP01 Carbon FIM: The FIM-approved BERGAMASCO helmet! [TRACK TEST]
Thanks to the teamwork between the official Caberg riders and the R&D office, the long-awaited GP01, the racing model from the Lombardy company approved by the FIM, has finally arrived.
Azzano San Paolo (BG) – From design to engineering, the journey was long but at the end of last spring, the GP01 – Caberg's top-of-the-range helmet – has finally reached the hands of testers and riders, ready to be put to the test in the most extreme riding conditions. My model "landed" just in time to accompany me to the numerous track events that have enlivened the motorcycle season that is about to end. In addition to track use, I also took part in various road events that allowed me to test it in everyday use. Small spoiler: the helmet has me totally conquered thanks to numerous cutting-edge technical choices implemented by the Research and Development department. With these premises, all that remains is to go and check whether the requests and suggestions made by the official Caberg riders have been fully understood by the Research & Development department of the Bergamo company.

Unboxing and first impressions
The packaging is classic Caberg, simple and with the large, easily recognizable logo. But this is the only thing the GP01 has in common with the brand's other helmets. Opening the boxIn fact, you don't find the helmet right away, but rather a very comfortable travel bag with handles, perfect for carrying it easily and safely. A significant detail: this type of accessory, often offered separately and at a high price, is included here as standard. The feeling of having a premium product in your hands, you can feel it right away. The double-zippered bag is well made and has a tag to enter your data. Inside is the classic protective bag that wraps the helmet, protecting it from bumps and scratches. I hold it in my hands and I recognize by touch those shapes that recall my beloved Drift Evo 2 Jarama except that here, theand the lines and the spoiler are more defined because aerodynamics are the main focusThe GP01, thanks to the advanced materials used in its construction, is extremely light while guaranteeing the highest possible level of protection.

ECE 22.06 and FIM LEVEL 2: certifications that make the difference
I had already had the opportunity to test the previous top of the range (HERE the complete article on the Caberg Drift Evo II) with excellent results, which is why I've been waiting for the new GP01 for a long time. With this model, however, we're on another planet: one dedicated to track and competition enthusiasts. The Caberg GP01, in fact, obtained the double ECE 22.06e FIM LEVEL 2 homologation, exceeding the stringent standards required and verified by the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) for use in the motorcycle world championships. This is the first Caberg helmet to have obtained FIM homologation, and both the look and the build quality immediately suggest that we are dealing with a racing product from every point of view!
How it's done
Let's start by saying that the small-sized carbon shell (available in sizes XS to L) is the result of a choice aimed at optimally balancing protection and lightness. Added to this is the extensive development work carried out in the wind tunnel, aimed at perfecting every smallest detail in search of the best possible aerodynamics. The Caberg GP01 manages to reduce the flow resistance to a minimum, offering incredible performance even at very high speeds. The engineering of the shell, however, It can make even long road trips more comfortable, relieving the neck and shoulders of the tension generated by the air when it hits the head for a prolonged period, increasing comfort. The generous rear spoiler contributes significantly to reducing turbulence, while the sophisticated ventilation system consisting of four front openings and four rear extractors, works to ensure the best possible ventilation at the entrance, eliminating residual heat through the rear vents. The interiors have been redesigned, easing the pressure on critical areas Without sacrificing the fit you expect from a racing helmet. The hypoallergenic and completely breathable fabrics make for an excellent riding experience, whether you're riding at the limit or just enjoying everyday life.

On the track: excellent for driving on the limit while remaining comfortable
Imola, Cremona and Vallelunga the slopes; BMW M1000RR, S1000RR, M1000R and Triumph Speed Triple 1200RS motorbikes which served as a test bench for our Caberg GP01, used as it should be during the hottest months of the year for more than 8 hours a day. With the Pistard team, I participated as a pacesetter in all the 2025 BMW Track Experience and Triumph Triple Experience events, significantly stressing the products being tested. I can happily say that The Caberg GP01 came out not with its head held high, but with its head very high from the stages in which it was a protagonist. I'm very sensitive to the fit of helmets, which is why on the first day with the GP01, I brought my "normal" helmet with me in case the Caberg caused me any discomfort in some area of my head. At Imola I'm wearing it for the first time, already pleasantly surprised by the fit which – in size M for a circumference of 58 cm – is practically perfectThe fabrics are smooth and cool against the skin, and the pressure on the upper forehead and cheeks is felt as it should be for a racing helmet, but without ever being uncomfortable. The visor raises and lowers easily, locking into the closed position with minimal downward pressure. Imola is a very technical track, with transitions between light and shadow, and the hot, humid, and cloudy day doesn't help. I'm on the track from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, with an hour and a half break and a few moments of respite between sessions: the GP01 gets soaked in sweat, but the air entering the open ventilation ducts in the upper part of the shell and in the chin guard guarantee constant recirculation expelling hot air from the rearWhen riding at low speeds, the visor can be kept in the semi-closed position, further increasing the airflow. With a slight downward pressure, it is easily locked, eliminating any type of aerodynamic noise. Riding the Hypernaked M1000R for several laps, with a full 208 hp propelling it forward like a missile, leaving your head completely at the mercy of the wind, the GP01 proves to be really stable, confirming the excellent work done in the wind tunnelThe Cremona Circuit was the second track where the GP01 accompanied me: riding an M1000RR, I rode it for more than three hours straight without finding a single fault. The comfort – even at nearly 300 km/h – is always remarkable; when approaching curves with my torso off the bike, the Caberg assists me by allowing me to keep my gaze steady, whatever direction I point it against the airflow. The visibility is also excellent, perhaps only slightly limited compared to other competitors: it's a matter of a few degrees that is only noticeable when switching from one helmet to another in rapid succession. The last stop was at Vallelunga, the Lazio racetrack par excellence: a technical track with the Curvone that puts the bike, rider, and helmet to the test due to the air that hits the rider as he crests the hill. Here too, The GP01 gave me a lot of stability and safety even though I was "hanging" from the handlebars of the Triumph Speed Triple 1200RS without the slightest aerodynamic protection. In none of the three track experiences did I need to replace the helmet with the one I was using previously. AndIt was love at first sight thanks to the perfect fit and performance that I have only found in helmets that cost twice as much as the Caberg GP01.. FIM approved but not only… for us it gets full marks!

CABERG SOS MEDICAL ID integrated
If you go to read the'article linked above regarding the Caberg Drift Evo II Jarama, You will find a detailed explanation of how the Caberg SOS MEDICAL ID system works. which uses integrated NFC technology to "save" the sensitive data and emergency contacts of the motorcyclist wearing the helmet. Simply holding a smartphone close to the logo on the helmet opens an application displaying all the information on the person involved, making any rescue operations easier and more immediate.
Caberg GP01 Carbon FIM: the racing helmet you don't expect!
