Yamaha YZF-R1 GYTR 2019: the version to celebrate the 2018th anniversary arrives at EICMA 20

Yamaha – 2018 celebrates the 20th anniversary of one of Yamaha's most iconic models: the Yamaha YZF-R1 which, since its arrival in 1998, revolutionized the world of superbikes. The dimensions, the engine output, the configuration of the chassis elements and the frame itself were completely rethought, giving new impetus to the production of the Japanese company which today keeps alive the myth of a motorcycle synonymous with performance and sportiness.

To celebrate 20 years of this bike, three Yamaha racing teams participated in the Suzuka 8 Hours, riding bikes featuring the red-white livery of the first YZF-R1 from 1998. Riding this "special edition" and wearing leather suits coordinated with the colors of the hull, there were Alex Lowes, Michael van der Mark and Katsuyuki Nakasuga who gave everything to try to achieve the fourth consecutive victory in the prestigious endurance race. This exclusive Racer features the high-performance Ohlins FGRT 219 fork group at the front, the TTX36 GP rear shock absorber and the adjustable steering damper, in addition to the Akrapovič Evolution 2 titanium exhaust, there are also Gilles Tooling protections for the engine crankcase and for the hubs.

The bike also includes the adoption of racing components not produced by Yamaha, selected and assembled in collaboration with the racing technicians of the Official Yamaha Racing Team. After assembly, the bikes are subjected to a bench test with a dynamometer brake for the engine and specific tuning for the chassis, to guarantee everyone's winning potential on the track.
