BMW R 12 and R 12 nineT 2024: the new classic cruisers and roadsters revealed [PHOTO]

BMW presents the new ones R12 e R 12 nineT, motorcycles with a classic look that aim to win over motorbike enthusiasts with a retro flavor but which are able to offer high-level performance and modern technologies.

The new chapter of the range BMW Motorrad Heritage it is therefore divided into two directions. The first is the one undertaken by the new one BMW R 12, which the German manufacturer describes as “a classic cruiser for a pleasant and relaxed ride”. The second is the new one BMW R 12 nineT, evolution of the original R nineT from classic roadster, which preserves the general design approach and the marked vocation for customization. Both will be available in 2024. 

The new BMW R 12 and R 12 nineT, designed with the aim of combining essentiality with attention to detail, combine the boxer engine with a design that embraces different eras, being able to leverage a wide range of customization possibilities that allows you to configure your own tailor-made motorcycle. 

Boxer engine and all new chassis

The two new BMW Motorrad bikes are equipped with the 1.170 cc boxer twin-cylinder engine of displacement that it delivers 95 HP on the R 12 e 109 HP on the R 12 nineT. Both bikes have a completely redesigned frame, as well as a new airbox integrated under the saddle. The frame consists of a one-piece tubular bridge structure with a bolt-on rear subframe. This solution made it possible to reduce weight and give the bikes a cleaner look. 

Equipped with a "Twin Pipe" exhaust system on the left side with two rear silencers with an inverted cone design, the two R 12s are also characterized by new instrumentation with round elements. The standard equipment includes the USB-C socket and the 12 V socket, while the digital display is available as an option. On the new BMW R 12 the standard instrumentation is limited to the speedometer, with the tachometer present among the BMW Motorcycle accessories. 

Distinctive design and driving comfort

The new BMW R 12 has a steel tank, a descending line, a solitary seat and a curved and low rear wheel cover over a 16-inch wheel, while the front one is 19 inches. A cruiser-style approach also reiterated by the lowered seating position with low saddle height and wide handlebars. The R 12 offers three color options: base paint Blackstorm metallic matt, additional color Aventurine Red metallic, option 719 “Thorium” in Avus Silver metallic. Prices for the new BMW R 12 start from 15.900 €.

The new BMW R 12 nineT presents itself with an ascending and dynamic line cafe racer from the old days, with aluminum tank with brushed and transparent side panels. The tank, shortened and narrowed by 30 mm in the rear area, has made it possible to improve ergonomics with the rider closer to the handlebars and a seat more oriented towards the front of the bike. The R 12 nineT also has a choice of three colours: basic paint Blackstorm metallic, additional color San Remo Green metallic, option 719 “Aluminium” in brushed aluminium/night black paint. The new BMW R 12 nineT has a base price of 18.950 €.
