BMW Motorrad: ConnectedRide Cradle introduced

Il ConnectedRide Cradle, presented by BMW Motorrad, is a solution designed for motorcyclists who use their smartphone as a navigator. Not just a support for the device, but a system to simultaneously observe the navigation map and vehicle-related information such as inclination angle, acceleration and more, through the BMW Motorrad Connected App and using the knob multi-controller.

Information

There are several smartphone models compatible with the ConnectedRide Cradle, specifically the specimens with the dimensions: minimum 130,1×65, 5×6.9 mm and maximum 162,5×78,1×8.8 mm. Among these are the following types:

Apple: iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Mini, iPhone 2 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max

HTC: U11

Given the individually adjustable side brackets, the ConnectedRide Cradle it is adaptable, also allowing inductive charging via the Qi standard with a maximum of 7,5 W or via cable with a USB-C connection at a maximum of 7,5 W (1,5 A at 5 V). An LED charging indicator, which can be dimmed, indicates the charging status of the device.

The ConnectedRide Cradle can be attached to the motorcycle, even on older BMW Motorrad models such as BMW R 1200 GS K5, adapting to BMW Motorrad models equipped with the optional “Preparation for the navigation system (option 272)”, in addition to the models equipped with the multi-controller knob and being able to adopt the navigation system via the BMW Motorrad workshop system, apart from the models R 1200 RT, R 1250 RT, K 1600.
On vehicles without a TFT instrument panel, the function can be used via a control device of the “Preparation for navigation unit SA 272”. To view vehicle data, the presence of the “Pro on-board computer (option 221)” function is required.

The ConnectedRide Cradle cannot be used with the Navigator 4-Button Mount Cradle and to make the most of the functions indicated it is necessary to use the BMW Motorrad Connected App version 4.0 or higher. We therefore recommend installing the latest updates.
Control of the app via the motorcycle controls is enabled through a Bluetooth connection and the connected device must be equipped with Bluetooth Low Energy, at least version 4.2, in light of the LE Secure Connections security requirements. Smartphones with older Bluetooth versions are not supported, according to the indications.
Bluetooth pairing is possible in the BMW Motorrad Connected App and confirmation is required during initial setup.
