Road safety: Minister Salvini intervenes on the topic, we also talk about scooters

The identification of electric scooters is one of the topics cited by the Deputy Prime Minister e Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, who spoke at the presentation of Dekra Road Safety Report 2022. The intention to convene a table to update the highway code has been reported, another of the important topics on the occasion.

According to the intentions, a table for theupdating of the Highway Code he could be called up as early as next week. Also in light of recent news events, in the case of serious traffic violations the minister believes that the lifelong revocation of the possibility of driving can also be considered, highlighting that anyone driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is potentially a murderer. .
Another important topic is the safety of those who travel on two wheels. The minister focuses in particular on electric scooters, expressing the need for their identification, given the speed that can be achieved when driving these vehicles. Just as the use of a helmet is relevant for safer driving.
“I would like to convene a table before the end of this year, for an update of the Highway Code, also involving the Ministry of Education, local authorities and representatives of the Municipalities. I believe it is essential to bring traffic education to school desks, to educate children from a very young age on respect for the rules and safety. Prevention is the first weapon. Then there is the repressive aspect, also fundamental, on which we need to intervene: economic sanctions are a deterrent, but I believe that the time limits should also be reviewed. I believe the lifelong revocation of the ability to drive can and should be considered in the most serious cases. Finally, I find the hypothesis of a gradual license in which the person is updated, accompanied and informed interesting. Without forgetting that we need to make mobility on two wheels safer, in particular by requiring the use of helmets and license plates on scooters to allow identification of the vehicle", declared Matteo Salvini, minister of infrastructure and transport, on the occasion.
At the center of the Dekra Report on road safety for 2022 there are the young generations of new drivers. An important topic given that on a global level, road accidents represent the leading cause of death among young people between the ages of 5 and 29. In Italy, according to the latest preliminary Istat estimate relating to the period January-June 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, 81.437 road accidents with injuries to people were indicated (+24,7%), the victims were 1.450 (+ 15,3%) and 108.996 injured (+25,7%), as indicated.
