Through a press release, Confindustria ANCMA (National Association of Cycle and Motorcycle Accessories) underlines its "Strong concern", after the statements on reform of the Highway Code released by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, in response to a question time in the Chamber. The association expresses its opposition to the proposal to compulsorily adopt insurance, helmets, indicators and license plates on bicycles.

The reaction

The President of ANCMA, Paolo Magri, recalls a letter sent last March to the competent minister, highlighting the value of the cycle sector with a turnover of over 3,2 billion euros and, in particular, that Italy could be the only country in Europe to adopt these obligations. Without forgetting the attractive potential of Italy with regards to cycle tourism and the growing market, also considering that Italy is one of the leading bicycle producers in Europe with over 250 small and medium-sized enterprises, 80% of which are present in Lombardy , Piedmont and Veneto.
A reform, according to reports, which as it was announced seems to go against the spread of cycling.
The press release further states: “These are measures that do not go in the direction of obtaining greater safety, for which a structural and educational commitment is needed to protect those who use bicycles, who are weak users of the road”.
