The introduction of motorcyclists among vulnerable road users is the important innovation foreseen by a modification to article 3 of the Highway Code which was approved yesterday Wednesday 31 January by the Transport Commission of the Chamber.

The news was welcomed positively by Italian Motorcycling Federation who considers this result a very important success, as he explains John Copioli, president of the FMI: “We motorcyclists have been denouncing our vulnerability for years, due to the unstable nature of the vehicle and the lack of a protective cell, and the data on accident rates confirm this. This is why we are very satisfied that Parliament and Government are finding a common line for this recognition. I thank the Parliamentary Intergroup for Motorcycle Mobility, led by Senator Erika Stefani, for taking action and supporting this battle of ours."

A success for the battle carried out by the IMF

For the moment therefore, thanks to the intervention of the Intergroup for Motorcycle Mobility which inserted the amendment into the Draft Law on the New Highway Code, the modification to article 3 of the Code has had the approval of the Commission House transport. The IMF's battle together with ANCMA for the recognition of vulnerable motorcyclists has had the cross-party support of many political forces.

A very important point, underlines FMI, because now, integrated into the provision, the regulatory recognition of motorcyclists among vulnerable road users will continue its process in the Chamber of Deputies and then in the Senate. Once these steps are passed, it will be law.
