Pirelli is ready for the motorcycle challenges of the season motorsport which will kick off next week in Australia, with the first round of FIM Superbike World Championship.

The most important news for 2024 is represented by the entry into the Moto2 and Moto3 Championships as Sole Tire Supplier by virtue of the three-year agreement which sees Pirelli involved in the lightweight and intermediate classes of the Grand Prix until at least the 2026 season.

The long P company will bring the philosophy contained in its now famous motto "We sell what we race, we race what we sell" also in the new paddock given that it will supply standard tires and not prototypes, a continuous evolution of those already used in over 20 seasons in the FIM Superbike World Championship, which remains the main open-air laboratory for the development of the range. Again with the racing products of the DIABLO family, from this year Pirelli will also be the sole supplier of the newly created FIM Women's World Motorcycling Championship and of the talent cups dedicated to the talents of tomorrow that are part of Dorna's Road to MotoGP project.

These championships are in addition to the over 150 motorcycle competitions, on road and off-road, in which Pirelli will be involved in 2024: on asphalt, in addition to those already mentioned, Pirelli also participates in some of the most prestigious national championships such as the British Superbike (of which has been Sole Supplier since 2008), the German IDM Championship and the France Superbike Championship, to name just a few.

The commitment to off road has also been confirmed, starting with the FIM Motocross World Championship organized by Infront in which the Italian tire company boasts a list of 81 world titles and of which it will be an official tire supplier until 2025 included.

The words of Barbier, Pirelli's Racing Moto director

“This year – he states Giorgio Barbier, Pirelli Racing Moto director – our commitment to motorcycle racing is stronger than ever given our entry as Sole Supplier not only in Moto2 and Moto3 but also in the various talent cups, which are part of Dorna's Road to MotoGP project, and in the Women's World Championship. A further recognition of our leading role in the motorsport scene as well as the validity of our product and the work that we have been carrying out for years also in the FIM Superbike World Championship, in the Motocross World Championship and in many other national competitions in which our involvement remains confirmed. We will also bring our philosophy to the new championships, which is nothing other than the maximum application of the concept "from the track to the road": in our case no transfer of technology is needed because the tires used by the drivers are not prototypes but the same ones that any motorcyclist can buy. We will face the new challenges with enthusiasm, a very close-knit team and with the working methodology that has always distinguished us."

Pirelli Racing Moto 2024

Moto2 and Moto3, new paddock for a new challenge

The Qatar Grand Prix (8-10 March) will mark Pirelli's official racing debut in the Championships Moto2 e Moto3 after a private test in September on the Barcelona circuit followed by the first official test of 2024 carried out in November on the Valencia circuit in which the drivers achieved record lap times. Within the company strategy, the two classes will become an important driver for the further strengthening of the Pirelli brand both in terms of commercial growth and technological development.

The pilots will be able to count on the consolidated performance of the Diablo Superbike slick tires e Diablo Rain rain jacket, both used successfully for years by riders of all classes of the FIM Superbike World Championship as well as by those of many national championships. Specifically, Moto2 riders will use front slicks measuring 125/70 R17 with SC1 and SC2 compounds and rear slicks measuring 200/65 R17 with SC0 and SC1 compounds. The Diablo Rain solution, in a single wet compound, will be available in sizes 120/70 R17 front and 200/60 R17 rear. As for the slicks for Moto3, the 100/70 R17 front will be available in SC1 and SC2 compounds, the same ones also used for the 120/70 R17 rear. Same front size for the wet Diablo Rain solution while the rear will be in 125/70 R17.

Worldsbk as the main development platform

Pirelli's technical partnership with the FIM Superbike World Championship represented the first example of a single tire in the history of top motor racing and, more than twenty years later, it has proven to have been a winning choice later followed by other championships two and four wheels.

Over time, Pirelli has continued to make technological innovation its strong point, dictating from time to time the new parameters of the racing tires used throughout the world: in 2013 with the historic transition from 16,5 inch tires to the new 17 ”, in 2018 with the adoption of new increased sizes, the following year with the introduction of the new SCX slick compound and new compounds for wet tyres, finally in 2022 with the development of the SCQ compound specifically dedicated to the new format with Superpole and Superpole Race. It follows that the World Championship for series derivatives will also remain Pirelli's point of reference for the development of its entire racing range in the coming seasons, which will then be made available to all championships.

Road to MotoGP and Women's World Championship: support for young and female riders

Together with Moto2 and Moto3, Pirelli also enters as Sole Supplier in the championships linked to the project Road to MotoGP, the global youth talent promotion initiative that offers a gateway to motorcycle racing around the world.

Pirelli will provide all classes of Finetwork FIM JuniorGP World Championship, Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup, Northern Talent Cup e Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, as well as strengthening the commitment to FIM MiniGP World Series. In parallel with the WorldSBK World Championship - where Pirelli is already present in all categories, including entry level ones such as WorldSSP300 , Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup – Diablo Superbike tires will fit the new Yamaha YZF-R7s FIM Women's World Motorcycling Championship which will start on June 14th from Misano, where the first of the six scheduled rounds will take place.

Pirelli was alongside Ana Carrasco when in 2018 she was the first woman in history to win a mixed motorcycling championship by winning the Supersport 300 World Championship and these championships are coherently part of Pirelli's racing strategy of being present in all the main dedicated competitions to the drivers of tomorrow and to facilitate the inclusion of women in motorsport.
