Pirelli celebrates 20 years as a Sole Supplier of Tires for the classes of FIM Superbike World Championship in the fifth round of the 2023 WorldSBK season, the Pirelli Emilia-Romagna Round, scheduled at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli between days 2 and 4 June.

Different goals and innovations over time

After 20 years of competitions, the results achieved by the tires are remarkable DIABLO Superbikes e DIABLO Super Race, made by Pirelli for the World Superbike classes. In the world championship series they were used by 1.438 riders, they disputed 1.105 runs, totalizing 18.891 laps e 2,9 million kilometers traveled in the race. A figure that corresponds to almost 8 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon.

Not only sporting results but also twenty years of innovations, remembering how Pirelli was the first to introduce the colore to differentiate the compounds with the application of shoulder labels of tires. It was also the first company, in 2013, to no longer use 16,5-inch tires in competitions, introducing new types 17 inches. A dimension that is now common at a production level on the road. Then, in 2018, increased measures were introduced, 125/70 front e 200/65 behind. So recently the Pirelli brand presented new rear solutions in soft compound SCX extension e SCQ, capable of supporting even higher performance, together with a new soft solution SC0 in front, even more recent.

In the championship, Pirelli kept a basic principle in mind: the strong link with road production. The tire range is not made up of prototypes, but of normal production products that can be purchased on the market. A choice that also represents a strong point and a strategy, summarized in the motto "We sell what we race, we race what we sell" which underlines the direct translation of a type of technology from the track to the road, as mentioned.
