Remembering the thirtieth anniversary of the participation of Heinz Kinigadner and KTM in the Dakar, the KTM Motohall of Mattighofen announces the opening of the exhibition “Legends of the Dakar”, inaugurated today.

The news

A review enriched by never-before-told anecdotes and some important episodes from the past, through the testimonies of those who experienced firsthand the intense experience of the most well-known and challenging rally raid in the world.

The exhibition allows visitors to immerse themselves in the climate of the competition, listening to the many stories linked to the competition. This rally started almost for fun in 1979, to the point of becoming one of the most demanding and legendary challenges in international motorsport. A race that has evolved over time and is run annually on routes that include desert sections and mountain passes. In this variable and suggestive context, KTM has been featured on several occasions since the 90s, from Heinz Kinigadner's debut until Kevin Benavides' recent success last January.

Using a magnetic compass and with limited assistance, Heinz Kinigadner took care of his modified Enduro LC4 throughout the challenge, putting KTM on the map and finishing on the podium on the shores of Lake Rosa. Back then, the two-time motocross world champion didn't think that his participation would only be the beginning of a brilliant adventure for KTM, studded with several absolute triumphs which from the first by Fabrizio Meoni in 2001 have become 19 to date with the recent one of 2023.

Al KTM Motohall of Mattighofen there are ten examples that were protagonists in the famous rally raid and various objects connected to the competition. An exhibition that projects visitors to the times of the historic Paris-Dakar, before reaching the atmospheres of South America and the more recent ones of Saudi Arabia. Among the spaces of the exhibition area, near the KTM headquarters in Austria, enthusiasts will be able to get to know legendary names who have faced the competition, from the aforementioned Heinz Kinigadner and Fabrizio Meoni, to other great riders such as Marc Coma, Matthias Walkner, Toby Price and recent winner Kevin Benavides.
