The Buell Dron Mk 1 turns twenty. In 1998 it marked design forever
The prototype was born after the meeting between Erik Buell and Bob Dron
Buell Dron Mk. 1 – They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Extending this poetic concept to the world of motors, we can say that an engineer will find an aerodynamic shock or an engine perfectly integrated into a frame beautiful, as in the case of naked motorbikes. Eric Buell, founder and owner of the company of the same name, which is in fact the sporting branch of Harley-Davidson, is an engineer and as such has a concept of beauty that is expressed through his creations.
The latest is the concept bike Buell Dron Mk 1. A few years ago, designer Bob Dron and Erik Buell got to know each other and exchanged some ideas. The latter was literally impressed and commissioned Dron to design something new. From there it was born”A sports bike that doesn't want to look like the classic Japanese motorcycle - Says will - This bike had to be aggressive at the highest levels".
And in fact the result is truly particular, with the large windshield constructed in three pieces and capable of giving a massive appearance. Throughout the entire process of creating the body, there were never any sketches of what the final result would look like. The automotive-style side wings also emerged as we progressed. The bike is very short and the center of gravity is less high than it might seem, but the balancing work was not easy. In the end, however, the result was unique and surprising, in true Buell style.
