Ducati Globetrotter 90° – Ducati Globetrotter 90° is experiencing its last exciting phases. Starting from Borgo Panigale last July 4th, the journey around the world on the Multistrada 1200 Enduro will end on December 15th where it began, at the headquarters of the Italian motorcycle manufacturer. The seventh and final globetrotter is German Timo Schäfer, who undertook the journey on December 2 from the Isle of Man. During the final stage of Globetrotter 90°, Schäfer will travel the remaining two thousand kilometers of this incredible adventure which in total will be 30 thousand kilometers through the symbolic places of the first ninety years of Ducati history.

Timo Schäfer is 30 years old and from Karlsruhe, Germany. Mechanical Engineering student, his first motorbike was a Cagiva Elephant with a Ducati engine. Today, Schäfer says smiling"It means that Ducati was in my destiny!”. During the final stage of Globetrotter 90°, Schäfer will stop in the city of Canterbury to meet Paul Smart, protagonist of what Ducati considers the most important victory in his history. On 23 April 1972, the first Imola 200 Miglia was won by the young and unknown Smart in the standard 750 GT; second, Bruno Spaggiari on the same bike.

Then, in Belgium, the seventh globetrotter will make a stop at the Spa – Francorchamps circuit where in 1958 Alberto Gandossi triumphed aboard the 125 Desmo. Timo Schäfer will then continue to Germany and in Bavaria, in Ingolstadt, he will stop at the Audi Museum which until 30 April 2017 will host the “More Than Red – Passione Ducati” exhibition which celebrates 90 years of the motorcycle manufacturer. Finally, the return to Italy, to Monza where, way back on November 30, 1958, the futuristic Ducati Siluro, just 100cc, set 44 world speed records. Here, there is no doubt, Timo Schäfer's meeting with Santo Ciceri, one of the heroes of that legendary day at the end of the fifties, will be truly exciting. Afterwards, Schäfer will go to Florence to greet Giuliano Maoggi, born in 1926, a living legend of Ducati: in 1956 Maoggi won the 4th Motogiro d'Italia on a Gran Sport 100, called Marianna, designed by Fabio Taglioni. Having crossed the legendary Futa pass, the Multistrada 1200 Enduro will be in Borgo Panigale on December 15th, concluding the wonderful epic of Globetrotter 90°.

Before the Torch and Multistrada passed into the hands of the German and last globetrotter, they were entrusted to the Englishman Hugo Wilson. Which left Lisbon on November 17th and traveled day and night in all weathers and for almost two thousand kilometers between Portugal, Spain and France until embarking in St. Malo. After the crossing, Wilson arrived home where the Multistrada 1200 Enduro remained on display at Motorcyclelive in Birmingham, the largest motorcycle show in the United Kingdom. Immediately afterwards, the globetrotter was at Silverstone, because here in 1960 Mike Hailwood won two races on the same day and in two different classes but always on a Ducati. At Donington, temple of the Superbike World Championship, Hugo Wilson then recalled the Ducati triumphs in SBK since the first race of the first edition, i.e. 3 April 1988 with Marco Lucchinelli on the newly created 851 SBK. Finally, on the Isle of Man, there was the meeting with the seventh globetrotter Timo Schäfer. The passing of the baton took place right here, because without a doubt the Isle of Man is a truly evocative place. Way back on 2 June 1978 during the grueling Tourist Trophy, Mike Hailwood, at 38 years old and now far from racing, achieved a triumph on the Ducati 900 SS TT IOM which moved 300 thousand spectators and which the Ducati company celebrated the following year with the birth of the legendary 900 Mike Hailwood Replica.
