The Environmental Mission linked to Ducati It is based on initiatives to protect, recover and enhance the environment, in order to make production and sustainability increasingly affordable. With this objective, Ducati collaborates with various partners including the Hera Group. These two companies operate in the use of processes and technologies that reduce the impact of the Borgo Panigale manufacturer's activities on the environment, focusing attention on optimizing energy efficiency and waste management.

The news

The collaboration with Hera is part of the commitment of Ducati in favor of sustainability for an environmentally friendly business, in order to implement changes that protect the health of the territory and the well-being of people.
A testimony to this attitude of environmental protection and protection and how this approach is integrated into the manufacturer's daily operations, in December 2022 the Borgo Panigale plant was inaugurated new building Finishing and Aesthetic Resolution, classified NZEB - Nearly Zero Energy Building - with almost zero energy requirements because it was designed based on precise criteria of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.
A building powered by a 170 kWp photovoltaic system to produce more than 200 MWh of clean energy per year and with an underground rainwater storage tank of approximately 150 m³ for the recovery of 90% of the rainwater, reused in the processes interior. A notable reduction in energy consumption is also linked to the use of high-performance air conditioning systems and natural lighting given the presence of large glass and polycarbonate surfaces.

Another factor defined with Hera is also highlighted: lo development of the trigeneration plant present in the Ducati headquarters in Borgo Panigale, managed by Hera Servizi Energia (HSE). A system that can provide electrical, thermal and cooling energy, reducing CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere. Since the start of the trigeneration plant's activity in 2016, the emission of 9.369 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere has been avoided, of which 1.508 tonnes in 2022. We are talking about a quantity corresponding to that absorbed by a forest of approximately 250 hectares over the course of a year.
Throughout 2022, the plant produced 13.159 MWh of electricity, another aspect that made it possible to reach 83% of the entire plant's needs. The remaining part of the electricity is purchased by Ducati externally, only from renewable energy sources, as specified further.
Furthermore, through the partnership with Herambiente Industrial Services (Hasi), the largest Italian company dedicated to the management of industrial waste, the Borgo Panigale company has implemented a highly efficient treatment plan which in 2022 led to the start of a recovery of 98% of the waste produced by the activities.
The process involves every aspect of waste management, starting from separation, through logistics optimization, up to the maximization of recycling.
Among the waste, alongside cardboard, plastic or mixed packaging, there are also particular materials such as the filters used to reduce fumes. These too, if appropriately treated, can be recovered.
