Death of Simoncelli, accusations against electronics

With pain still in my heart for the passing of Marco Simoncelli, a few minutes after his death the "trials" began on the dangerousness of motorcycling, to the excessive use of electronics which increasingly pushes pilots to the limit. Hundreds have been explored on television and on the web hundreds of times the frames of the sequence of those terrible moments of the accident that took Sic away. In many quarters there has been talk of an anomalous and unusual dynamic, difficult to explain, given that the sliding of the motorbikes should have taken it towards the outside of the curve and not towards the inside as instead happened. It remains to be understood whether at that moment Simoncelli was pushing to try to raise his two-wheeler from which he was now out with a good part of his body or whether an electronic problem made any other alternative maneuver impossible for him.

The crude images of the terrible impact show Sic losing control on a bend and almost immediately ending up on the ground with his whole body (he also lifts his left foot from the footrest) but remains attached to his motorbike, perhaps in a desperate attempt to lift it up again. After an initial slipping of the motorbike towards the outside of the curve, it suddenly changed trajectory, suddenly cutting the track towards the inside. Simoncelli thus triggered a tragic carambola, ending up under the wheels of the motorbikes of Edwards and Rossi who were arriving from behind and who were unable to do anything to avoid the impact. The force and fatality of the same left no escape for the Italian pilot whose helmet also blew off.

The commission of inquiry will carry out the necessary assessments and analyzes of the telemetry of the motorbike and the dynamics of the accident, reviewing the images which we have reviewed many times between yesterday and today. When tragedies like these happen, we return to discussing measures safety of a sport like motorcycling, putting it under accusation. Those who have raced in the past swear that safety today is much greater than it was in the past. The fact remains that asking yourself certain questions is the minimum when faced with the "tragic fatality" of a smile fading in an instant at the age of 24.
