Motorcycle market: registrations increase in SeptemberMotorcycle market: registrations increase in September

Motorcycle Market – September confirms the consolidation of the growth in registrations, while only the "fifties" continue to decline in volumes. According to Ancma data, in September 14.815 vehicles (“50cc”) were registered, equal to +16,8%, thanks to motorbikes which with 4.526 units achieved +25%, the best result of the year, and scooters which with volumes more than doubled, equal to 10.289 pieces and +13,5%, recovering significantly compared to last year.

The 50cc slowed down with 2.375 registrations and -8,7%. Overall, 17.190 motorized two-wheelers were sold in September, equal to +12,5% and this month is worth about 8% of the year's total sales. The progressive data from January to September totals 147.851 registrations of vehicles over 50cc equal to +9,6% compared to last year, of which 92.781 scooters equal to +6,9% and 55.070 motorbikes with a trend of +14,5% . The "fifties", however, with 19.321 pieces still mark a -12,8%. The total sum of the 2-wheel market (registered + 50cc) from January to September totals 167.172 vehicles equal to +6,4% compared to the same period last year. The analysis by displacement highlights an increase of +125% for 14,9cc scooters with 32.621 units and is worth over a third of the total, while the 150-250cc with 22.814 units are relatively stable at -1%.

The 300-500cc and maxiscooters over 500cc are doing well, the large displacements, those above 1000cc, are up slightly, totaling 16.731 units with a modest increase of +1,8%. Motorcycles between 800 and 1000cc also performed very well with an exploit equal to +39,3% compared to 2014. Even the medium displacements between 650 and 750cc appear to be growing with 10.311 motorcycles and a +4,7%. The real success, however, is that of the naked ones with 21.724 units and a notable +32,9%, in second place were road enduros with 16.671 pieces and +3,9%. Customs are further behind with 5.472 sales and +4,4%, while touring motorbikes are also growing well with +19,4%. “The data emerging from September sales demonstrate that the recovery is robust, even if we are still very far from pre-crisis levels. The encouraging signs in terms of increased employment related to the increase in production trigger a virtuous synergy for an improvement in the economic cycle. The benefits serve to reconstitute a level of trust throughout the sector's supply chain, which has not been seen for some time. From now until the end of the year we expect an increasing trend and we expect to close 2015 with a percentage close to double figures.” he said Corrado Capelli, president of Confindustria Ancma. "It is clear that we will still have to work hard to recover the sales of over 400 thousand units recorded in 2007, but finally there are the conditions to increase the propensity to purchase.”
