BMW Motorrad – Sales record in 2017

Sales record achieved for the seventh consecutive year.

Record numbers: deliveries all over the world with an increase of +13,2% reaching 164.153 units between Motorcycles and MaxiScooters. BMW Motorrad continues its growth and will soon focus on new markets and continue expanding the range.

BMW Motorrad takes another big step towards achieving the goal of 200.000 units sold in 2020, the record achieved for the seventh consecutive time, for now, stops at + 13,2 % with 164,153 vehicles sold. The greatest growth was recorded in Europe (France 16.607 units – Italy 14.430 units – Spain 11.193 units – United Kingdom/Ireland 9.550 units – Germany with 26.664 units) Strong sales growth also on the Asian market, China and Japan are among the Asian markets with the strongest double-digit growth. In India, the BMW Group's sales subsidiary has started successfully selling BMW motorcycles.

The best-selling models remain the versions R1200 GS e GS Adventure with over 50.000 unit delivered, but the BMW "two-cylinder boxer" commands the market thanks also to the new variants of the RnineT (Pure – Racer – Urban G/S) with a total of 86.090 unit. The models follow closely behind S series with the S1000RR Supersport Bike, the S1000R Power Roadster , S1000XR Adventure Bike with 21.752 specimens all over the world.

The wide BMW range concerns two other opposite but clearly growing segments, the first with new engine capacities under 500cc, such as the G 310 R need G 310 GS, introduced in 2017 and immediately appreciated in the South American and Asian markets with sales of 11.595 units, and the second with the Luxury Tourers represented by the 6-cylinder models  K1600 Bagger e K1600 Grand America which see a 50% increase in sales with 6719 unit delivered.
