Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M 2020: a new level of power [PHOTO & VIDEO]

The Iwata company introduces the renewed supersports

A 200 horsepower crossplane engine together with different technical solutions, as well as specific details, characterize the new sporting definitions of Yamaha Motor

The historical one is recalled Yamaha YA1, the specimen that in July of the 1955 just ten days after the foundation of Yamaha Motor Company allowed the conquest of the uphill race at Mount Fuji, to underline a strong tradition and illustrate new ones YZF-R1 e YZF-RM 2020, which represent a new evolutionary step in the sports production signed by the brand Iwata.

The quality characteristics

With the R series a panorama strengthened by technologies deriving from the commitment to the Superbike World Championship, with a connotation that also refers to what was done in MotoGP. Particularly the design of the two YZF-R1 e YZF-RM 2020 it seems influenced by what was done with the YZR-M1, considering the different elements, from the fairing to the side panels, all connected to a slim chassis to offer an aerodynamic and functional vision (a 5% increase is noted), from a performance perspective. Also distinctive are the LED headlights and a new aluminum air duct behind the fairing, while the lower area of the fairing which hides the exhaust is made of titanium.
Returning to the merits, the YZF-R1 features a fork Kayaba with stems from 43 mm and targeted interventions on the internal structure, taking up the indications, which favors an excursion from 120 mm. Also modify the damping valves present with a “lamellar layout” favoring optimized interaction of the medium. Just as the steering damper has been changed and the rear damper is also set differently, further supporting the chassis in progression. Braking is linked to a system made up of a pair of discs at the front 320 mm with monobloc calipers and pads developed using a new high-friction material. The wheels wear rubber Bridgestone Battlax RS11 latest generation high performance.
Various devices: a brake control system, i.e Brake Control o BC, opting between two modes ABS BC1 e BC2; a sophisticated inertial platform a 6 axis IMU characterized by gyroscopic sensors focused on pitch, yaw and roll; Launch Control system and a new system EBM (Engine Brake Management) which allows you to choose between three different levels of engine braking, with an action based on various parameters including the number of engine revolutions, accelerator, movement of the throttle body and therefore the gear engaged.
The indications are visible on an updated active matrix liquid crystal display TFT (Thin Film Transistor).

The heart of the project

An engine cross plane di 998 cc composed of four cylinders it delivers 200 horses, strengthened by cutting-edge solutions and already prepared for the Euro 5 regulation, always incorporating what has been reported.
The tree cross plane allows irregular bangs to 270° - 180° - 90° - 180° touching peak power a 13.500 rpm. There is talk of "new finger rockers and new cam lobe profiles", in order to favor the overall delivery. Just as the intake system and the cylinder head have been reconfigured, other interventions also concern the different arrangement of the injector group, bringing the throttle covers closer to the combustion chamber. Above these 45mm bodies are new Bosch injectors.
The exhaust has also been reshaped with four catalysts, two arranged in front of the expansion chamber, the others behind. Systems to attenuate noise linked to heat shields are also adopted. Therefore, interventions to improve cooling and efficiency of the drive unit are reported, such as a solution Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) which evaluates the action of the aforementioned throttle bodies or a APSG (Accelerator Position Sensor Grip), equipped with a magnet and sensor that transmits information to the YCC-T to support greater interaction.

The 1 Yamaha YZF-R2020M

It represents an evolution of the concept R1 already described, even more suitable for track activity and each example is also numbered, given the type of model. The propulsive heart is the same as the R1. It is distinguishable by the carbon hull which recalls the M1 and technological systems that strengthen its performance, combined with one CCU advanced and suspensions Öhlins Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS) of an electronic type, therefore dedicated updates.
Among the elements indicated, a fork also stands out Öhlins ERS NPX pressurized by gas, linked to the aforementioned system Öhlins Electronic Racing Suspension through which to make the adjustments, therefore always a later solution Öhlins Electronic whose preload setting is varied and an appearance strengthened by a carbon front mudguard with a style reminiscent of that of the M1 and a tail still in carbon. Parts of a project optimized in various aspects, such as the presence of specific applications (YZF-R1M app, YRC Setting app e Y-TRAC app) which allow you to evaluate, personalize and manage data regarding on-track activity.
Instead with theMyGarage app it is possible to configure a virtual example, save and share the respective preferences, perhaps with a view to a possible purchase. There are various accessories proposed, with the anticipation of components deriving from racing activity, thanks to the work of the team GYTR extension (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing), as reported.
For those interested in YZF-R1M 2020Furthermore, an exclusive is also anticipated for next season Yamaha Racing Experience (YRE) on specific tracks on the Old Continent, with the possibility for owners of the vehicle to learn about customization options and some of the official drivers of the Japanese company.
