Yamaha Yard Built, a new chapter with the new Pure Passion

Inspired by the '750 FZ85, a street racer with an artisanal flavour

There are riders in garages all over the world who dream of building a unique motorcycle model that reflects their individual personality. Yamaha helps make their wishes come true by entrusting some talented world-famous customizers with the task of creating specials Yard Built, two wheels that become sources of inspiration.Already at EICMA 2013 three extraordinary models Yard Built had seen the spotlight: Deus Ex Machina had given new life to the XJR1300 'Eau Rouge'. The Danish Wrenchmonkees had reinterpreted the new SR400 Sport Classic with the creation of the SR400 GibbonSlape, while the SR400 BSR was the development of a Japanese bike maker.

Il new chapter Yard Built suggests Low Ride magazine, transforming Yamaha XV950 in a Street Racer with an artisanal flavour, modifying its driving position and style in order to enhance its sporting spirit. Full Yamaha tradition dusted off “eighties” style in a replica of the legendary Yamaha FZ750, a road sports car that set standards.

Modularity, constructive rationality and essentiality represent authentic strengths of the Yamaha XV950, a model with a strong character that is a candidate for ideal "canvas" for painting ideas of customizing that are very different from each other, as individual as the riding experiences and tastes of each individual motorcyclist. It's easy to radically change the look of a stock motorcycle; more difficult to do by improving its dynamic qualities without cutting or welding anything, containing costs and respecting the original project. This special appears radically different from the basic model and yet the chassis, mechanics, electrical system and electronics remain perfectly standard.

The style of the Pure sport – as the new creation was called – was curated by Oberdan Bezzi. Half fairing, tail and tip inspired by Yamaha FZ 750, in a mix of engaging aesthetics and manufacturing ability.

Technical coordinator of the project is Andrea Radaelli of Radikal Chopper. Based on his indications, the bodywork is created by hand by Simone Lecca of Metal Bike who, in his atelier on the outskirts of Turin, creates unique pieces in hand-beaten aluminum sheet. Tubular steel frames reinforce the half-fairing and the tail, anchoring to existing fixing points on the frame. The paintwork by Kaos Design stands out as a special one scratched effect which accentuates, in the silver and metallic hue, the manual workmanship. Graphics in black and pastel red reproduce the 750 FZ1985 scheme, harmonizing the handcrafted parts and the standard tank. The direction indicators and mirrors, supplied by Rizoma together with the knobs also machined from solid, are precious but approved.

The pilot's position becomes sportier but not exasperated and widely adjustable thanks to half handlebars with double joints; the footpegs are stock. The leather saddle, made by Laboratorio della Pelle e del Cuoio using traditional techniques, is approximately 120 mm higher. The set-up developed by Yamaha designers remains unchanged. Absolutely standard tyres, rims, braking system with ABS, fork, frame, mechanics and the entire electrical system. The only concession to the sound is the specially designed two-in-one exhaust designed by HP Corse; its terminal, with a trapezoidal section, is more compact and lighter than the original.
