Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid: the future of off-road within reach of gas

The prototype should see the light in 2019, perhaps earlier

It will mount the now classic 689 cubic centimeter twin-cylinder engine that the MT-07 and Tracer 700 also feature

Yamaha Ténéré – 2018 could become the year of the forceful return of off-road. All the major motorcycle manufacturers have presented a EICMA different models with knobby wheels, from the simplest to the most refined, to satisfy all tastes and all levels of experience. Yamaha is no exception and on the occasion of the Milanese show it presented the Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid. For now this light crossover is only a prototype, but the curiosity first and then the attention that have surrounded the model could push the house of the three tuning forks to speed up the work and bring forward the release of the definitive version to the end of 2018.

Ténéré, among other things, is a name that evokes sweet memories in Yamaha given that over 60.000 examples were sold in the first 10 years of life. Compared to the Concept T7 that appeared a year ago, this version of the Ténéré seems to be very close to the version we should see on sale.

The engine is the now classic 689 cubic centimeter twin-cylinder engine also fitted on the MT-07 and Tracer 700. An engine chosen forlinear and full-bodied delivery, perfect in size and weight for both on-road and off-road use. The front suspension has a fork with larger legs and a higher stroke to better digest dirt roads, as well as protection under the engine. The line has that Spartan touch that makes you want adventure, while the light clusters are an ode to modernity. In short, it seems to be a motorbike that is perhaps not for everyone (the genre must still be liked unlike other more "horizontal" segments) but which will certainly be able to attract a good portion of the market for the solutions and versatility it offers, as long as you don't overdo it with sporting ambitions.
