Yamaha, Shinya Kimura unveils the first "Faster Son" at Wheels & Waves [VIDEO and PHOTOS]

It is a tribute to the philosophy of Japanese manufacturers

Yamaha “Faster Son” – The fourth edition of Wheels & Waves, which took place last weekend in Biarritz, France, brought together more than ten thousand two-wheel enthusiasts from all over Europe, who arrived here to admire the most incredible Special motorbikes. Under the ocean sun, Yamaha unveiled a preview of the first product of the new philosophy “Faster Sons”, created by the Japanese customizer shinya kimura and three new Yard Built specials created by famous international bike makers such as Deus Ex Machina, Numbnut Motorcycle and it roCkS!bikes, which accompanied several Yard Built models already presented in recent months.

“Faster Son” was born from the first collaboration between the Japanese customer and the Tre Diapason brand, and it is a tribute to the philosophy of Japanese manufacturers. "Faster Son” expresses our current belief in motorcycle development. All our Sport Classic models are built with full respect for the "Fathers", the legendary Yamahas of the past, and developed without compromising on rideability, because we wanted to make them faster and more fun! They are the bikes we would like to ride, because that's what we really love." said Shun Miyazawa, Product Manager of Yamaha Motor Europe. “The idea that I always have in mind is to build bikes that I like to see, that I like to ride, that I like to have fun with.”, he explained, instead, Shinya Kimura. "Creating timeless beauties that do not follow fashions and trends makes me happy”. Kimura considers designing a Yamaha a delicate job and has always respected the design that has always distinguished the Japanese brand. "It's a great honor and pleasure for me to finally collaborate and do something together. The bikes of the past have something very beautiful about them, they are designed with purity. Their mechanical parts, while sometimes not perfect, reflect the passion of those who made them, and the desire to do their best for each generation. The beauty of vintage motorbikes is that this passion is visible and tangible. However, it would not have been right to replicate the design exactly and expect to sell the bikes just because they are beautiful. Those who create and build today, including me, should instead respect the old design and assimilate it, but then create something new. So I fully agree with Yamaha's idea of producing motorcycles with the most innovative technology that respect the heritage of classic motorcycles and, of course, are fun to ride!” concludes Kimura.

shinya kimura worked with the most recent one forward-facing twin-cylinder from the current Yamaha range and when it came to designing “Faster Son” he identified with a Yamaha designer and asked himself what he should do to create a motorcycle that he liked above all. “For me the XS1 and XS650 are two icons that represent Yamaha's design philosophy. They are bikes that never seem dated, and continue to be beautiful, in everyone's eyes. This is what I try to express in today's bikes. My main thought was: I want to create lines that flow smoothly, in other words, a harmony, just like the XS1.” has continued Kimura's. "When I created “Faster Son” I wanted to express my personal taste without taking away value from important features such as driving, braking, speed and cornering. The engine is the result of the most advanced Yamaha technology, it is not like vintage engines, with their magnificent fins. But the overall design of the bike does not penalize nostalgic or contemporary elements, rather blends them together. I looked inside myself to make sure that form, function and my personal design concept were not in conflict with each other, respecting the Yamaha philosophy of achieving a harmonious design in every detail, from the engine to the frame to the fork and suspension . Any initial reservations I had turned out to be totally unfounded, because I managed to achieve a timeless design that incorporates the most advanced features. Whether you work on a vintage engine or a modern one, there is one thing in common. Simply, function becomes form. I believe I have been able to create a motorcycle that marries, in total harmony, heritage and vintage style with the most advanced technology, for a satisfying riding experience."
