Motorcycles and legendary champions

Various examples of a fascinating racing history were admired last weekend atVarano de' Melegari “Riccardo Paletti” racetrack, on the occasion of the event ASI MotoShow. Present it Yamaha Racing Heritage Club and great champions including Giacomo Agostini, Carlos Lavado and Christian Sarron.

The great era of the two times

Lo Yamaha Racing Heritage Club, recently established, aims to protect the sporting history of the Japanese manufacturer. An initiative that allows owners of historic racing cars to become members and receive advanced technical support, with a registration of the vehicle in the official YRHC database. In 2022 the appointment atASI MotoShow it was the first of four planned events.
The Yamaha Racing Heritage Club is also expected at Sunday Ride Classic on the Paul Ricard circuit in France on 11 and 12 June; then toADAC Sachsenring Classic from 15 to 17 July and again at Classic Motorcycle Festival, scheduled from 31 July to 1 August, on the British track of Donington Park.

Among the specimens admired on the Varano de' Melegari track, the following stand out: the TR2 Phil Read's 350 1969cc; a selection of TZ750 from the 70s; there YZR500 0W53 of 1981 by Kenny Roberts and the YZR500 0W81 with which Eddie Lawson won the 500 world title in 1986. Examples that covered a time span of over 33 years, also considering other interesting examples such as the YZR250 of 1990 driven by the two-time 250 world champion Luca Cadalora, as well as the Yamaha YZR500 ROC of the legendary Freddie Spencer or the YZR500 0WL9, one of the last two-stroke racing models present in the premier class, driven by Norick Abe in 2002.
Various samples were seen on this occasion, as mentioned. Among the most interesting moments was the presence of the 15-time world champion Giacomo Agostini again close to the TZ750D of 1977 with which he won his last world championship race in Hockenheim. At the Parade Lap on Saturday and at the Lap of Champions on Sunday the two-time 250 world champion Carlos Lavado were also protagonists together with the bikes with which he won titles, the TZ250 of the 1983 and the YZR250 of 1986; then his rival and friend Christian Sarron, world champion in the 250 class in 1984 and who appeared with the TZ750 of 1977.
