Yamaha Niken GT 2023: evolution and innovation with 890 cc units

The new Yamaha Niken GT for the 2023 it is a sophisticated Sport Tourer example, already recognizable by its three wheels and front design, characterized by a range of advanced technologies concerning the electronics, chassis and propulsion unit. Together with refined ergonomics and new generation solutions, it presents a 3 cc CP5 EU890 engine more powerful and one TFT instrumentation.

The features of the renewed Niken GT

Among the interesting aspects of the evolved Niken GT a redefined intake intake and air filter are highlighted to promote quieter driving. The new exhaust meets EU5 regulations and there is a greater ground clearance.
The model is covered in Yamaha black with bronze colored details. These finishes concern the bodywork, the engine and the front. An aspect also strengthened by the adoption of bronze-coloured wheels.
It has a new windshield with manual adjustment of 70 mm via a lever located near the new instrumentation. The new plexi was designed to distribute the air flow inside and outside the dashboard, in order to balance the air pressure and promote comfort.
Gods also underlined new handlebar controls which include a joystick to operate various functions of the TFT screen, also considering Garmin navigation (Garmin Motorize requires a subscription support contract, as mentioned). The dashboard features a USB-A socket with a 12V socket under the seat. There are also heated grips as standard.
The instrumentation is of type 7-inch color TFT with three different themes, each designed to adapt to various riding scenarios and rider preferences. A simple aspect in the case of “STREET”, a livelier theme by opting for "SPORT" or a prospectus with the main information in the case of “TOUR”. A Communication Control Unit allows the rider to connect their smartphone to the bike, using Yamaha's free MyRide app.
The new saddle was specifically designed to easily position the feet on the ground, considering the new shape and the different thickness of the padding in the inner thigh area. The specimen is also equipped with rigid side bags for a capacity of 30 liters each.

Technique and technology of the NIken GT 2023

The main frame is refined, features a steel main beam assembly to adapt to the Leaning Multi Wheel Technology, in addition to the tubular steel frame and die-cast aluminum rear brackets. The main chassis sections have now been redefined to suit the needs of the new and more powerful 3 cc CP5 EU890 engine, inclined forward by 5°.
Speaking of the 15-inch front radial tyres, they have been specifically developed to meet the specific needs of the LMW steering unit. Emphasizing an optimized rigidity balance and a special compound, the model's 120/17R15 and 190/55R17 tires promise easy handling and stability thanks to the Yamaha LMW system.
The rear frame is equally redefined to favor a balance of stability with the Leaning Multi Wheel Technology and the new rear suspension linkage is developed in aluminium, saving 236 g of unsprung weight compared to the previous steel element.
The progressive system features a new ratio which, in addition to the revised hydraulic adjustments of the rear shock absorber and the smaller diameter spring, offers a smooth ride and more consistent performance.
The electronic part also features a series of driving support systems. The system Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) and the accelerator position sensor (APSG) ride-by-wire they replace the cable and pulley of the previous model. The clutch assist system has also been reconfigured to facilitate more natural intervention, maintaining an appropriate rpm level with the clutch engaged.
The settings regarding the D-Mode engine maps have changed in consideration of the new 890 cc engine and the rider can choose between the settings "SPORT" with direct accelerator response, “STREET” with smooth action and “RAIN” which is soft and the maximum power is limited by 18%.
The parameters of the traction control system have also been adjusted in consideration of the character expressed by the new engine. The system offers three levels of intervention: "1" minimum e "2" maximum, along with an option "OFF". The degree of intervention is also automatically adjusted based on the engine map.
The Niken GT for 2023 also features a cruise control system as standard, it can be activated from the 4th gear engaged and can manage the speed in 2 km/h increments, according to the information.

Powertrain

The performances are linked to the aforementioned 890cc engine. A new propulsive heart characterized by an increase in capacity of approximately 5%. The architecture is similar to that of the engine it animates Tracer 9 e MT-09: an 3cc 12-valve inline 890-cylinder unit. Also noted are a diameter x stroke of 78,0 x 62,1 mm and 11,5:1 compression.
There is also a bidirectional electronic gearbox, whereas the previous model was designed only for higher gears. Together with the new slipper clutch (A&S), the quickshifter supports stability when changing gears and during acceleration and deceleration.

Arrival

La Yamaha Niken GT for 2023 it is expected in the Yamaha dealer network from next year February.
