The path of Yamaha in the world of e-bike continues and evolves from the first series model in the world dating back to 1993. On this occasion, the Yamaha range for 2023 is strengthened by the launch of the new drive unit PWseries S2 with a series of innovative aspects for Sport and Trail. A solution with a lower weight and greater power, compared to the PWseries ST introduced in 2018. Defined on the strengths of the PWseries ST, according to the indications, the driving experience is refined for different usage needs.

Given a goal of carbon neutrality towards 2050, Yamaha engine units will be manufactured at MBK Industrie's French factories in San Quentin. The design allows for quick change of settings and can be removed from the stand with a simple touch in bad weather or, to strengthen stability, you can secure it with a bolt.

The more compact dimensions allow e-bike manufacturers to have greater margin in the technical development of newly developed frames, according to indications. The same small dimensions are also functional from an aesthetic point of view, favoring a minimalist vision. Furthermore, the 20% more compact setting allows the development of advanced frames with shorter chain stays, which allows for a potential increase in overall rigidity for the benefit of handling and traction, according to the indications.
Features of the new PWseries S2 unit also highlight a lower bracket that is 22,8mm shorter than the PWseries ST, resulting in superior efficiency and an accentuated pedaling sensation, according to the information.
The new ISIS interface with the lower bracket axle of the PWseries S2 offers greater rigidity, meeting the needs of e-MTB enthusiasts. Then the compatibility with the double front chain offers greater possibilities for bicycle manufacturers.
With a maximum torque of 75 Nm, is more than 7% more powerful than the PWseries ST and the weight is limited to just 2,85 kg, 16% less than the previous design. As that makes it one of the lightest units in the category. Values ​​which, despite a 20% decrease in volume, allow the new PWseries S2 to have a high power/weight ratio in the multi-purpose unit segment.
