The topic covered in the new appointment Tips and tricks, proposed by yamaha Motor, is that of the three wheels.

Two wheels in front and one in back

Fabio Albertoni, Aftersales Racing Manager e Yamaha Motor technician, immediately asks in the first moments of the video if it has ever happened to enter a curve at a rather high speed. A not so rare situation for those who appreciate a certain dynamism in the saddle. Two eventualities can occur: in the first case the tendency to go wide, constantly braking and relying on a large space to recover the trajectory and continue on the road; alternatively try to enter a lean but without using the brake or only slightly, this time trusting that the front does not give way. In any case, the risk appears quite clear, the expert underlines. Simply put: 50% chance of being able to make it, or possibly hurt yourself.
Returning to the examples mentioned, in the first situation given the presence of forces connected to the dynamism of the vehicle itself, when you brake consistently a type of force emerges that is contrary to the leaning movement, while in the second case there is a limit of adhesion which concerns the front tire and, beyond a certain lean angle, there is a risk of slipping. But there is also a third possibility, such as the number of wheels associated with the Yamaha Nike, for example. A third way in which it is possible to brake hard and bend decisively at the same time, tackling the curve straight on, as explained by the technician. In this case the motorbike is a little different, equipped with two wheels at the front and one at the rear. When braking hard, the sensation is that the bike itself accompanies the motorcyclist in the insertion, explains the Yamaha technician in the video, considering double the grip in the front area compared to a traditional two-wheeled vehicle.
On this occasion it is underlined that "the loss of the front" represents one of the main problems for a motorcyclist. Thinking about this, a few years ago some Yamaha engineers were assigned the task of developing a solution that could solve this problem, recalls Fabio Albertoni. After several attempts a concept was defined. The three-wheel approach was therefore not the starting point, but "the technical solution" taken for a type of driving that was functional in several respects. A setting named “Multi-Wheel Leaning”.
