The new electric models Yamaha BOOSTER e BOOSTER Easy they enrich the range of vehicles intended for urban mobility. A new medium Speed pedelec and a new one e-bike, similar from an aesthetic point of view but different in typology and expressed power.

The newness

The strategy Switch ON by Yamaha introduced in 2022 represents the beginning of a new path in the development of an innovative generation of electric vehicles. The last two innovations add to the various examples already introduced previously such as the scooter NEO's and e-bikes Crosscore RC, Moor 07 e Wabash RT.
For the new BOOSTER electric model, the collaboration with Fantic Motor is also highlighted. A novelty produced in Italy in the Minarelli factory, according to the specifications established by the Iwata brand.
BOOSTER and BOOSTER Easy are offered in two color variants: Cyan Solid Aqua e Dark Gray Metallic.
These examples were developed in Europe to respond to requests for more sustainable transport solutions in an urban context, they are practically identical and technically similar, especially looking at the design. They differ in terms of performance, as the BOOSTER Easy e-bike allows you to reach a maximum speed of 25 km/h with assisted pedaling, however the S-pedelec BOOSTER vehicle, aimed at holders of an AM or higher license, can reach a maximum speed of 45 km/h.
It is also possible to customize the models with a series of original Yamaha accessories, based on the type of model.

Design and equipment

The BOOSTER models represent advanced concepts that recall the models Yamaha ed MBK, equipped with large tires driven by several young Europeans in the 80s and 90s.
A connotative aspect of the minimalist style is the Exposed U-shaped die-cast aluminum frame, with spoked wheels that run large 20″ x 4″ tires.
Several exclusive components are highlighted that strengthen its functionality. The cables are hidden to highlight the aesthetic features, the chain guard and the engine covers also highlight the construction quality of these specimens. The fork features a Yamaha cover, plus a Supernova front light and a front mudguard stand out. In the rear area there is a luggage rack, both models also feature adjustable Royal Orbis saddles and an integrated Koso LED light as standard.
On BOOSTER the interface of C display from Yamaha it is located centrally. The 2,8-inch dot matrix TFT screen is in color and also features a separate control switch. The information also includes autonomy, assistance mode, distance travelled, cadence and calories burned. By connecting your smartphone via Bluetooth® you can access a range of fitness and navigation apps.
Instead BOOSTER Easy presents the interface of display A by Yamaha with a 1,7 inch LCD screen. It includes integrated buttons and among the various indicators there are also speedometer, assistance mode and battery capacity.
The vehicles are equipped with a compact and lightweight Yamaha PWseries S2 drive unit.

Technical aspects

They are two urban mobility concepts equipped with an adjustable saddle to find the best position and equipped with a 20" x 4" high profile fork and tires adopted to optimally cushion the bumps. The frame with the exclusive front section in die-cast aluminum facilitates climbing and, at the same time, the center of gravity remains contained for the benefit of handling.
The BOOSTER Easy and BOOSTER models have a 36 V battery with 630 Wh capacity, which powers the PWseries S2 drive unit. A quick release solution located in the center to balance the masses. The battery can be charged directly or once removed it can be recharged elsewhere.
The compact Yamaha PWseries S2 engine is a unit built following the “less is more” philosophy and weighs 2,85 kg. The expressed torque amounts to 75 Nm and one of the highest torque/weight ratios in the category is highlighted. Yamaha's zero-cadence technology offers assistance as soon as pedal pressure is detected, and the automatic assistance mode provides additional electrical support when needed.
Riders can also choose a Zero mode, which completely disengages the drive unit to use only the force generated by pedaling, and a Walk Assist mode which makes it easier to move the vehicle when not driving it.
BOOSTER Easy allows you to reach a maximum assisted speed of 25 km/h, according to European legislation relating to e-bikes. If necessary, it is possible to select the aforementioned Zero mode to drive more quickly downhill, without the action of pedal assistance. There are five selectable modes: +ECO, ECO, STD, HIGH and AUTO. The proposed torque ratio is set to 50% in +ECO mode and rises to 280% considering HIGH. Taking a 75 kg cyclist as a reference, the autonomy can reach up to 120 km in +ECO mode and 60 km in HIGH, based on the information released.
While BOOSTER It is considered an electric moped (L1e) and requires an AM license plate and adequate insurance to drive. The pilot can also choose between +ECO, ECO, STD, HIGH and AUTO modes. The torque ratio varies from 60% in +ECO mode up to 400% in HIGH mode, however the pedal assistance attenuates at 40 km/h and stops before reaching a speed of 45 km/h.
Depending on the situations and, always considering a weight of 75 kg, the autonomy can be 110 km in +ECO mode and 50 km in HIGH mode.
