WDW2016 – The ninth edition of the World Ducati Week, the international gathering that every two years brings together the community of the Borgo Panigale manufacturer, ended with a record turnout. Coming from all over the world, WDW2016 involved and thrilled the tens of thousands of motorcyclists who met at the Misano World Circuit "Marco Simoncelli" from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd July to celebrate and share the passion and enthusiasm for Ducati.

In three days, over 81.000 visitors were estimated for this ninth edition, an important and significant number which made it possible to exceed 25 by 2014%, when around 65.000 people arrived in Misano. At WDW2016, 60% of motorcyclists are Italian, but it is the remaining 40% that confirms the power and appeal of the Ducati brand in the world. Ducatisti come from all over Europe, USA, Canada, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan, Australia and even Sri Lanka, Puerto Rico, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Guatemala, Angola and China, from where four of them came to Misano on their Ducati Multistrada 1200s. All passionate and united by the "Red" common denominator of Desmo passion which, in an event like this, finds its maximum expression.

World Ducati Week 2016 confirmed the great evolution that Ducati has been experiencing in recent years. The title of WDW2016 was “More than Red”, that is: strong roots in the world of sports motorcycles, but also new models for new segments. Like the XDiavel, the new Ducati cruiser, the Multistrada 1200 Enduro, but also the new Scrambler Sixty2 400 and the Scrambler Flat Track Pro. Recent innovations in the Ducati range, which allowed WDW2016 participants to live new and unique experiences. WDW2016 were three exciting and intense days, with the climax reaching Saturday 2 July, which saw the maximum turnout of Ducatisti. In addition to the many activities included in the event program to enliven the desmodromic weekend, there are also two fun and exciting races reserved for the Ducati MotoGP and SBK riders of today and yesterday: the “Scrambler Flat Track race by TIM” (held on Friday and won by Andrea Dovizioso) and the acceleration race, the “Diavel Drag Race by Shell Advance” (run on Saturday and won by Scott Redding). Both races saw the confrontation between riders such as Casey Stoner (twice MotoGP world champion, in 2007 with Ducati), Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone (the two Ducati Team riders), Loris Capirossi (former Ducati MotoGP rider), Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati rider), Troy Bayliss (three-time SBK world champion with Ducati), Regis Laconi (former official Ducati rider and winner of the 2014 edition of the Drag Race), Scott Redding (OCTO Pramac Yakhnich rider) and Hector Barbera (Avintia Racing driver).

On Saturday evening, on the stage of the Santamonica stadium in Misano Adriatico, Claudio Domenicali and the Ducati riders greeted all the Ducatisti and unveiled the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario, a special version of the Bolognese Superbike, proposed in a numbered series created to celebrate 90 years of Ducati, which they take place next Monday 4th July. The stage then lit up with the rock music of Piero Pelù, who entertained the participants of the World Ducati Week for two hours, before leaving room for the EURO2016 Germany-Italy football match and the classic Rustida, the great BBQ organized by the lifeguards on the Romagna Riviera where the entire Ducati management cooks and serves piadine and grilled food to the thousands of event participants.
