Voi Voiager 4: the electric scooter evolves and is ready to invade Italian cities [ROAD TEST]

The evolution of a concept

In recent years, attention to urban micro-mobility has led to the research and development of new solutions that make the user safer and more enthusiastic about the service. There Voi Technology for years it has been carrying out an e-scooter sharing service in collaboration with many cities and since 2020 it has become a carbon neutral company. In the first months of 2021 was launched on Voiager 4 which we previewed in Milan.

Updates

At first glance, the Voi V4 electric scooter appears identical to the previous version, already widespread in many European cities. The Swedish company instead seems to have invested heavily in the safety and environmental impact of the vehicle, increasing its useful life and making it almost entirely recyclable. The structure was inherited from the precursors, it stands out from very similar competitors, it conveys solidity and allows the scooter to resist the daily stress to which it is subjected. Direction indicators have been placed at the ends of the handlebars and on the rear mudguard. They are visible at 360 degrees and can be operated by a control located on the side of the left grip. The Voyager 4 to date it is the only rental e-scooter that has this useful tool. With the thumb of the right hand you can comfortably operate the accelerator, now a classic on electric scooters. Braking is guaranteed by internal drum brakes controlled by a pair of well-positioned and easy-to-operate levers, which allow the vehicle to be stopped in just a few metres, even in emergency situations. The Voi V4 is equipped with a pair of 10-inch solid wheels which, together with the front suspension, make it comfortable and safe even on bumpy roads and city cobblestones. Under the central plate we find a double stand, capable of keeping the scooter upright and avoiding unpleasant falls during parking or parking.

Propulsion system

The Voi V4 branded e-scooter is equipped with a 350w combined with a battery with a range of more than 100 km, what is surprising however is the system that governs all of this. In fact, the scooter is equipped with IoT and GPS systems of high precision capable of locating it by adapting its maximum speed according to the area it is crossing. This solution increases the safety of the user and the citizen: it saves the driver from having to continuously monitor the actual speed and allows him to remain concentrated on driving the vehicle, it also prevents negligent users from transgressing the limits imposed by local administrations. The company is developing further updates such as the AVAS acoustic system, capable of signaling the presence of the scooter to pedestrians, or the dynamic air quality detection system.

Driving

Going around Milan with the new Voiager 4 It was a lot of fun and just as comfortable. Through the appropriate application, with a simple scan of the QR code, the scooter was unlocked, driving was comfortable and fun: the correct grip of the knobs (antibacterial to prevent the spread of viruses) and the excellent weight distribution ensure that the balance even at low speeds during slaloms in pedestrian areas. The maximum speed is limited to 20 km/h and it is more than sufficient to move easily in the urban environment. To finish the ride you must be in the areas designated for scooter parking, thus avoiding unpleasant abandonments of vehicles on pavements or in front of vehicle exits. The application also shows incentivized zones that reward the user who deposits the scooter in that area, this intuition guarantees the company uniform coverage of the territory.
In a period in which competition between urban sharing companies has become very intense, Voi Technology has managed to stand out by investing not only in safety but also in the future of its product, paying attention to the life cycle and recovery of each individual component of the scooter. This characteristic certainly does it honor and makes it worthy of a new registration.
