Swedish company Voi Technology, engaged in shared electric micro-mobility, announces that it has passed the mark in less than two years one and a half million kilometers traveled on Voi Technology sharing scooters in Milan. A communication given in the context of Smart City NOW, together with the presentation of the "Cities made to be lived in" project introduced by Magdalena Krenek, General Manager of Voi Technology in Italy, which the Swedish company is giving shape to throughout Europe with the development of its proposals for integration with MaaS – Mobility as a Service platforms. The aim is to create a "Milan in 15 minutes".

Towards intermodal mobility

According to widespread information, Milano it is one of the busiest cities in the world and it should be noted that for an itinerary that would require 30 minutes of time, in Milan on average 38 minutes are spent. Furthermore, based on the information provided, 5 days and 3 hours is the amount of time that, every year, every Milanese citizen spends time stuck in city traffic.
Voi Technology's commitment implies better access to public transport, a relative increase and intermodal use with sharing micro-mobility, reducing the number of private cars in circulation. Via “light” or “deep” integrations with public and/or private MaaS, this has already been defined in several European cities, such as Stuttgart, Helsinki and Berlin.

Research carried out by Voi Technology on customers in 2021 highlights that 16% of Voi's Italian customers have chosen to use a sharing scooter instead of a private car for certain journeys, according to the so-called "modal shift", i.e. the change in use of the means of transport by the citizen. Specifically from the car to the integrated sharing service, to other public transport and sharing services.
In almost two years of service in Milan, around 100.000 trips by private car in the city have been avoided. A figure corresponding to 50 tons of CO2 and 20 kg of PM2.5 not emitted.
The Voi Technology service in Milan and other cities has integrated first and last mile travel in the city, also taking into account public service stops such as buses, trams, subways or train stations. The "intermodal trips" represent 56% of the total trips made in Milan and the sharing micromobility service is the protagonist in completing the public transport proposal.
