Vespa GTS: five new versions and the new 2018hpe arrive at EICMA 300

Wasp – The Vespa brand will lead to the next edition of EICMA the entire Vespa range with a series of updates that increase performance, comfort and style: Vespa GTS, GTS Touring, GTS Super, GTS SuperSport and the brand new, technological one Vespa GTS SuperTech, with a color TFT display that makes the most of smartphone connectivity through the system MY VESPA. Two engines are available: in addition to the single-cylinder 125 i-get, there is now the new 300 hpe engine (High Performance Engine), the most recent result of the Piaggio Group's engine technology, aimed at creating increasingly advanced and efficient engines in terms of containment emissions and consumption. Capable of delivering a power of over 23 HP, it is the most powerful engine ever used on a Vespa.

Vespa GTS: many new aesthetic features

The stylistic evolution of the Vespa GTS has always followed the path of tradition, maintaining that balance between tradition and modernity in the lines of the body, strictly in steel. But the new Vespa GTS stands out from previous versions while maintaining its distinctive features such as the front headlight and rear lights now adopting full LED lighting technology, a solution that contributes to improving active safety. The front features a redesigned shield, in the center of which is incorporated the unmistakable "tie", elongated and embellished with three friezes. Also new are the shapes of the handlebars, the chrome crest on the front mudguard, the rear-view mirrors and the grilles on the sides of the shield, characterized by a new honeycomb motif. At the rear, the restyling involved the side panels that run under the bodies, while the versions powered by the 300 hpe engine stand out for a new engine crankcase cover and a new design of the exhaust silencer cover. The natural seat helps to make the vehicle even more comfortable and underlines its vocation for tourism. The large underseat compartment makes the most of the available space and can accommodate two Vespa Visor 3.0 demi-jet helmets and more. The drawer in the rear shield contributes to increasing the load capacity of the Vespa GTS, inside which there is also a USB port, useful for charging external devices.

Vespa GTS: the Piaggio 300 hpe engine is the most powerful ever

The new Vespa GTS features the latest evolution of the 300 cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 4-valve, liquid-cooled and electronic injection engine: the result of the experience of the Piaggio Group's research and development center and called 300 hpe (High Performance Engine), compared to the previous version, the maximum power reaches the value of 17,5 kW (23,8 HP) at 8250 rpm (+12%), while the maximum torque, equal to 26 Nm at 5250 rpm, has increased by 18%. Improvements that are accompanied by a significant reduction in consumption, with mileage going from 29,4 km/l to 31 km/l in the WMTC cycle. The transmission has also been profoundly revised: the CVT automatic speed variator boasts a new belt, a new geometry and new materials, all wrapped in a new cover covered with sound-absorbing material, to the full advantage of mechanical silence, to which a new and more rigid clutch drum. The engine is controlled by a latest generation Magneti Marelli MIUG4 control unit, already set up for the future Euro 5 regulation.

Vespa GTS: always connected with VESPA MIA

The VESPA MIA connectivity system allows you to connect your smartphone to the Vespa GTS on-board electronic system via Bluetooth, offering exclusive features for an even more satisfying and fun driving experience. VESPA MIA and the new Vespa App are specifically designed to connect iOS or Android mobile devices to the most recent Vespa models, equipped with instruments with TFT displays: Vespa Elettrica, Vespa Primavera S and Vespa Sprint S, and indeed the great novelty of the new range Vespa GTS, the SuperTech version. Once you have connected your smartphone to the Vespa GTS SuperTech - by associating it with the vehicle via the dedicated Vespa App, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play - all the notifications relating to incoming calls and messages are displayed on the TFT display, clearly visible in the centre. .

The system also allows you to manage phone calls through the practical joystick on the right control block and to use the smartphone's voice commands to make calls or play music, activating a playlist. To fully enjoy all these features, Vespa GTS SuperTech offers a special dedicated Jet helmet as an accessory which integrates earphones and Bluetooth intercom inside. The display also works as a navigation tool, accompanying the driver along the route previously set on the Vespa App, via pictogram indications.

Vespa GTS: versions and colours

The most classic version of Vespa GTS it is offered in the Grigio Dolomiti color and in the two new colors Verde Relax and Blu Energia. From this base the adventurous Vespa GTS Touring was born, a tribute to the Vespa's vocation for travel. Millions of Vespas, equipped for tourism, have always traveled the roads of the world, offering entire generations the opportunity to get to know each other, broadening their borders and meeting different cultures. Vespa GTS Touring it is characterized by the evocative fairing which improves its protection without affecting its elegance - thanks to its small size - and by the rear luggage rack which, combined with the large under-seat compartment, guarantees excellent load capacity to face unforgettable holidays, alone or as a couple. Available in Vignola Red and the new Bosco Green, Vespa GTS Touring finally stands out for its refined and elegant upholstered saddle and the dedicated plate on the back of the shield. The version GTS Super embodies the typical values ​​of the Vespa GTS such as style, comfort and safety, to which it adds a high level of sportiness, taking up the legacy of legendary sports models such as the Vespa GS 150 of 1955, the Vespa 180 SS of 1965 up to the T5 "Pole Position” from 1985. Immediately recognizable for the black wheels with diamond finish and the double-coated saddle with piping, it comes in four color variants: Bianco Innocenza, Nero Lucido and Rosso Passione to which is added the new Giallo Estate. Vespa GTS it is the pinnacle of sportiness on a Vespa: a strong character immediately signaled by the completely black rims and two bold matt colours, Grigio Titanio and the new Blu Vivace, enhanced by new dedicated graphics. As with the Super version, the GTS SuperSport also stands out for its double-covered saddle and piping.

The new Vespa GTS SuperTech represents the top of the Vespa GTS range, expressing the maximum in sportiness and technology. GTS SuperTech is the first large-body Vespa to adopt totally digital instrumentation thanks to a 4,3" full color TFT display. The instrument, in addition to displaying all the classic information, such as speed, total and partial mileage, ambient temperature, fuel level, acts as a display for the functions of the VESPA MIA smartphone connectivity system. Aesthetically, Vespa GTS SuperTech is characterized by the wheel rims and the decorations of the typical "tie" on the front shield offered in a special matt black finish. The yellow painted front shock absorber spring acts as an original contrasting element with the two available colours, Nero Vulcano and Grigio Materia. The saddle also features "hi-tech" finishes, such as the double covering and the two-tone stitching with yellow lines.
