In the European Union from the 20 March 2021 there is an obligation to place some Labels, compliant with the standard established in EN 17186:2019, sui new electric rechargeable models from the mains and at the charging stations.
Complying with the art. 7 of the DAFI Directive (Directive 2014/94/EU on the creation of an infrastructure for alternative fuels), as already happens for the identification of liquid and gaseous fuels, the Commission has instructed the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) to define a standard on the harmonized labeling of the different types of electric charging proposed.

Information

The application of labels is carried out in all 27 EU member states, in the countries of the European Economic Area (Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway) and also in Serbia, Macedonia, Switzerland and Turkey. New vehicles made in the EU and destined for the British market will have the labels present, regardless of the country's decisions on the application of EU rules following "Brexit".
The Directive provides for the application of labels on rechargeable electric vehicles introduced on the market for the first time or registered from the 20 March 2021. It concerns mopeds, motorcycles, tricycles, quadricycles, cars, buses, light and heavy commercial vehicles. The labels will be visible near the fixed connector of the vehicle and on the mobile charging connector, also considering the removable charging cables, and therefore in the use and maintenance manual. They may also be present in the electronic manual included in the model's infotainment system.
Same date for charging stations placed on the market. In this case the labels will be placed near the power socket or in the compartment where the charging connector is located. The labels will also appear, as information, at the dealers of the various vehicles.
The shape of the labels is a regular and horizontal hexagon for each type of charging in both alternating current and direct current. Identification of the type of charging is possible through an identifying letter and a color scheme. The identifying letter is white/silver on a black background and white/silver outline on the vehicle side elements, instead of black on a white/silver background and black outline on the station side elements, as indicated.
