Triumph Tiger 1200: a new project, different versionsTriumph Tiger 1200: a new project, different versions

Five expressions of technological dynamism with a roaring character. The new range Triumph Tiger 1200 is made up of exemplars Tiger 1200GT, Tiger 1200GT Pro e Tiger 1200GT Explorer that make up one side of the proposal; then from the specimens Tiger 1200 Rally Pro e Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer that define the grouping. The models are equipped with a new three-cylinder engine and the Explorer models feature a fuel tank 30 liters, compared to that from 20 liters of the remaining models.

Compactness and sculpted style

A lean and taut vision with combined dimensions and chassis settings that differentiate the GT versions from the Rally. Among the distinctive aspects, the central area of the models and the development of the saddle are also highlighted, which facilitate the support of the feet.
The specimens GT are equipped with spoked rims, front from 19 inches and posterior from 18 inchesinstead the proposal Rally presents tubeless spoke rims, of which the front one from 21 inches and the one behind 18 inches.
Among the characterizing aspects of the project we mention the lightness and the exploratory attitude. The weight is over 25 kg lighter than the previous generation and up to 17 kg less than the main competitor, considering shaft final transmission and comparable specifications.

We then indicate over 50 Original Accessories that can be associated, including luggage transport programs with new Trekker bags in plastic material with a top case with a capacity of 52 liters where two full-face helmets and a backrest can be stored, or new aluminum bags with charging from above Expedition, in particular a 42 liter topcase to which a backrest in aluminum or black color is always attached.
The new Triumph Tiger 1200GT it is coated with a coloring Snowdonia White, instead for specimens Tiger 1200GT Pro e GT Explorer together with the aforementioned Snowdonia White colors are expected Sapphire Black e Lucerne Blue. For Tiger 1200 Rally Pro e Rally Explorer, then, there are still another Snowdonia White and even one Sapphire Black, in addition to a Matt Khaki.

Technical aspects

The position of the windshield can also be changed while moving and the handlebar setting is optimized considering the specificities of the various models, highlighting a more pronounced width of 20 millimeters compared to the previous figure and a 16 mm higher position on the models GT Explorer e Rally Explorer. The entire overview is equipped with hand guards, however the aluminum guards are distinguishable in design and extension on the GT and Rally examples. Additional protective elements are also highlighted for the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer models with engine protection bars, also extended to the tank in the case of the Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer. These are features that can be adopted in any case, if not present as standard.
The aforementioned weight reduction is also linked to the choice of aluminum to develop the tank and the double-sided rear swingarm with tri-link technology.
The frame is 5,4 kg more compact and lighter than the previous figure and is associated with a bolted rear section. The models are equipped with an under-saddle mechanism that allows quick fixing of the seat at two different heights, with a variation of 20 mm.
Seat height on GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer models varies by 850/870 mm, instead switching to Rally Pro and Rally Explorer changes between 875 mm e 895 mm, as reported. Among the accessories we also indicate a low saddle to contain the data by another 20 mm.
Another interesting aspect is the latest generation Showa semi-active electronic suspension with dedicated setting and a Brembo Stylema® braking system on the different models. Also highlighted are the Magura HC-1 adjustable levers.
The Triumph Tiger 1200 GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer models featuring 19 and 18 inch wheels with aluminum spoke rims are fitted with Metzeler Tourance™ tires as original equipment; while the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer versions with 21 and 18 inch tubeless spoked rims are equipped with the more versatile Metzeler Karoo Street™, but the Michelin Anakee Wild tires are also noted in the booklet.

Technological part

The LED daytime light signature is integrated into the front light cluster and there is also an Adaptive Cornering Lights solution, a cornering function sensitive to the angle of inclination present on all versions apart from the Tiger 1200 GT model. This model also does not include a Hill Hold function, heated grips and center stand.
Among the functional aspects, we highlight the backlit blocks with 5-way central joystick, an electronically adjustable cruise control system and an under-seat compartment with USB charging socket. Among the interesting solutions is also a Triumph Shift Assist active when climbing and downshifting, without necessarily activating the clutch lever. The Tiger 1200 GT is also excluded in this case, but it is still offered in post-assembly.
The instrumentation is visible on a seven-inch color TFT screen equipped with specific graphics to which a My Triumph Connectivity System can be associated. Depending on the model, there can be up to six driving modes with interventions on delivery and response, in addition to the action of other solutions. In Rain mode the thrust is electronically limited to 100 horsepower.

For the Tiger 1200 GT example the programs are shown Rain , Road e Sport; for Tiger 1200 GT Pro and GT Explorer they are listed Road, Rain , Sport, Rider-customizable e Off-Road; therefore for Tiger 1200 Rally Pro and Rally Explorer the programs result Road, Rain , Sport, Rider-customizable, Off-Road e Off-Road Pro. The Off-Road Pro mapping is the most extreme for off-road use, with the deactivation of ABS and traction control, also optimizing the engine action.
The Cornering Traction Control, through the data collected by the IMU platform, finalizes the system intervention parameters based on the selected mode.
The Tiger 1200 GT Explorer and Rally Explorer models are also equipped with a heating system for the driver and passenger seats and a tire pressure monitoring system. These solutions can also be combined in post-assembly. Also highlighted is a new and exclusive Triumph Blind Spot Radar system, developed together with Continental, which is associated with the functions of Blind Spot Assist via a radar located in the rear area with signaling of a presence in the blind spot and a Lane Change Assist which alert when you are about to change lanes and this is already occupied by another vehicle.

The configuration of the triple propulsive heart from 1.160 cc turns out to be T-plane with firing of the three cylinders at irregular intervals. An increased power of nine horsepower is reported that reaches altitude 150 horses at 9.000 rpm, the torque is increased by 8 Nm reaching a peak of 130 Nm at 7.000 rpm.
