The five-time Enduro World Champion, Ivan Cervantes, Global Ambassador of Triumph Motorcycles and an expert pilot, he achieved a record GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ driving a specimen of Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer. He held: “The greatest distance traveled on a motorbike in 24 hours (individual record)”. The record was achieved on the asphalt ofHigh-Speed Ring of the Nardò Technical Center, in Puglia, officially verified and validated on 30 April 2023 by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS delegates.

The new reference

The Spanish rider faced a demanding challenge from a physical and mental point of view. A test concluded after riding 4.012km in 24 hours (precisely 4.012,53 km), beating the previous reference of over 600 km.

The last record of 3.406,17 km in the space of 24 hours was set by the American Carl Reese, achieved on 26 February 2017 at an average hourly speed of 141,9 km/h. Cervantes, however, remained constantly beyond this limit within the famous ring of the Nardò Technical Center, equaling the previous reference five hours ahead of the 24-hour limit. The Spaniard continued until he crossed the 4.000 km threshold, covering another 606 km in the remaining five hours. A distance corresponding to that between Bologna and Salerno.
The new record was officially recorded by the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS commission, which certified a distance of 4.012,53 km, traveled at an average speed of 167,79 km/h.

Cervantes took the record aboard a Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer, a production model chosen at random from the Triumph factory in Hinckley, UK, as noted.
No specific technical intervention was carried out on the example, but a correct running-in procedure following the methods recommended by the manufacturer and the first service with oil change.

Technical aspects such as the 30 liter "long range" tank (overall 520 liters of fuel were used) and the refined aerodynamics of the bike supported the rider in his commitment, even in light of sudden moments of rain. The only maintenance required was, as planned, replacing the rear tire.

In view of the attempt, in addition to training with a Tiger 1200 Rally Pro, the Spaniard focused on a particular nutrition and recovery strategy, considering the advice of Professor Andrew Bagshaw of the University of Birmingham, as was highlighted again in occasion.
