Triumph Tiger 1200: a new range to think about long journeys [PHOTO]

Five examples of versatile dynamism

A new project and five definitions. The new range of Triumph Tiger 1200 projects towards exploration, animated by a new three-cylinder engine with T-Plane shaft and two Explorer versions equipped with a 30-litre tank. The overview GT is made up of exemplars Tiger 1200GT, Tiger 1200GT Pro e Tiger 1200GT Explorer. The proposal Rally, instead, is made up of models Tiger 1200 Rally Pro e Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer.

Design and peculiarities

A project where aspects such as lightness and an exploratory attitude stand out, whether it is road tourism as in the case of GT range, whether you choose to tackle off-road routes on the specimens Rally. A low weight is highlighted over 25 kg compared to the previous generation and up to 17 kg less than the main competitor with shaft final drive and comparable specifications.
The specimens GT They feature a front wheel rim 19 inches and one back from 18 inches, both characterized by races. The range Rally, however, is equipped with tubeless spoked rims and the front one appears to be 21 inches. Apart from the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer variants which, as mentioned, have a fuel tank 30 liters, the rest of the family features a tank from 20 liters.
The style appears lean and sculpted, keeping in mind a combination of dimensions in general and observing the surfaces and the mechanical part, with chassis settings that distinguish the more touring nature of the GTs and the more proactive one of the Rally, as reported. The central part of the vehicle and the development of the saddle are also highlighted which, when manoeuvring, facilitate the support of the feet on the ground. To the specimen Tiger 1200GT a color is associated Snowdonia White, to the models Tiger 1200GT Pro e GT Explorer the color variants can be combined Sapphire Black, Lucerne Blue e Snowdonia White, then to the specimens Tiger 1200 Rally Pro e Rally Explorer the shades Sapphire Black, Matt Khaki e Snowdonia White. They are then reported over 50 Original Accessories combinable, including luggage transport programs, opting between the new Trekker bags in plastic material with topcase with a capacity of 52 liters to store two full-face helmets and a backrest, or alternatively the new Expedition top-loading aluminum bags, which features a 42 liter topcase to which a backrest in aluminum or black color is always attached.

Technological aspects

Full lighting LED is characterizing, in particular the LED daytime light signature integrated into the front light cluster with Adaptive Cornering Lights, a cornering function sensitive to the inclination angle present on all versions except the Tiger 1200 GT. The same goes for the central stand and heated grips, not included as standard on the Tiger 1200 GT. Furthermore, the Explorer variants are also equipped with a heating system for the driver and passenger seats and a tire pressure monitoring system. Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Solutions that can however be combined with post-assembly versions.
The models feature a series of functional elements such as backlit blocks with 5-way central joystick, electronically adjustable cruise control and an under-seat compartment with USB charging socket. Also included is a Triumph Shift Assist, active uphill and downshifting without necessarily activating the clutch lever, again except on the Tiger 1200 GT, which is however offered post-assembly. Unlike the other versions, the GT also does not have a Hill Hold function as standard which prevents the vehicle from moving backwards in the event of an uphill start, with the simple activation of the rear brake with automatic disengagement based on a new movement. .
The models are equipped with an instrument panel Seven inch color TFT with specific graphics to which to associate a My Triumph Connectivity System. Depending on the model, there can be up to six driving modes with interventions on delivery and response, in addition to the action of other solutions. In Rain mode the thrust is electronically limited to 100 horsepower.

Tiger 1200GT are reported Rain , Road e Sport; for Tiger 1200GT Pro e GT Explorer the programs Road, Rain , Sport, Rider-customizable e Off-Road; finally for Tiger 1200 Rally Pro e Rally Explorer the modalities Road, Rain , Sport, Rider-customizable, Off-Road e Off-Road Pro. The Off-Road Pro mode represents the most extreme mapping for off-road use, with the deactivation of ABS and traction control, also optimizing the stress on the engine.
The same Cornering Traction Control is optimized and included as standard in each version and, through the data collected by the IMU platform, finalizes the system intervention parameters based on the chosen mode.
Also about the top versions GT Explorer e Rally Explorer there is also a new and exclusive Triumph Blind Spot Radar system, developed together with Continental, which is associated with the functions of Blind Spot Assist through a radar located in the area back which warns of an incoming presence occupying the blind spot and a Lane Change Assist which warns more directly when the indicator is engaged to change lane when it is already occupied by another vehicle.

Technology

Handling remains a key aspect and, as mentioned, the overall weight is low compared to the previous generation by 25 kg. A relief also linked to the choice of aluminum to develop the tank and the double-sided rear swingarm with tri-link technology, a new element that allows for a containment of 1,5 kg compared to the previous one, strengthening resistance and reliability, as indicated.
A windshield appears in front and the position can also be changed while moving, as well as considering additional deflectors. The positioning of the handlebar itself is optimized based on the specificities of the models in the range, also optimizing control of the vehicle. An element wider than 20 millimeters compared to the previous one and higher than 16 mm only on GT Explorerer and Rally Explorer models. The hand guards are present throughout the overview, while the aluminum protectors are distinguishable in design and extension on the GT and Rally models. Additional protection is noted for the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer models with engine protection bars, also extended to the tank in the case of the Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer. However, they are features that can be added later on models that do not have them as standard.
The ergonomic redefinition concerns triangulation, also including the footrests and the gear and rear brake controls. The frame is 5,4 kg more compact and lighter than the previous one with a bolted rear section. The development of the seat, observing in particular the front part in contact with the tank, appears thinner and facilitates the resting of the feet on the ground as already mentioned. All models are also equipped with an under-saddle mechanism that allows the seat to be quickly fixed at two different heights, with a variation of 20 mm.

On GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer models the seat height varies by 850/870 mm, however for the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer variants the variation differs between 875 mm e 895 mm. The accessories also include a low saddle for a further 20 mm of containment.
Moving on to the chassis, we highlight the adoption of the latest generation semi-active Showa electronic suspension with dedicated settings and a Brembo Stylema® braking system featured on all models. Also mentioned are the Magura HC-1 adjustable levers. As mentioned, the GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer models feature 19 and 18 inch wheels with aluminum spoke rims and are fitted with Metzeler Tourance™ tires as original equipment; while the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer equipped with 21 and 18 inch tubeless spoked rims feature the more versatile Metzeler Karoo Street™. And for those interested in more intense off-road activity, Michelin Anakee Wild tires are indicated in the booklet.

Motor

La T-plane configuration of the engine involves an ignition of the three cylinders at irregular intervals, considering 180°, 270° and 270° again, essentially a short interval and two long intervals.
A new triple unit from 1.160 cc with low weight, greater performance and cardan shaft final transmission. The exhaust system is also compact and light, also keeping in mind a distinctive sound. Nine more horsepower are highlighted, reaching a peak of 150 horses at 9.000 rpm and 8 Nm more torque when reaching altitude 130 Nm at 7.000 rpm, compared to previous values.
