Triumph Street Scrambler 900: the myth that never sets [ROAD TEST]

New Modern Classic for explorers

Test ride dedicated to the new Triumph Street Scrambler 900, a model with a versatile chassis and characterized by a refined and distinctive style

Triumph Street Scrambler 900, which is one of the most famous evergreens in the sector.
For this year and for the umpteenth time, the English company has managed to give a notable update to the most famous of its models, in numerous aspects, while maintaining at the same time the unique charm that has always distinguished it over the years.

The newness

What stands out first and foremost is the increase in power, about 10 horses more than the previous model, now reached 65 horses thanks to numerous interventions carried out on the engine body, now equipped with Ride By Wire, and the clutch, aimed above all at lightening some specific parts.
In terms of electronics, it is now possible to select three driving modes: Road, Rain e Off Road, the latter allows you to deactivate both theAbs and traction control in order to better manage extreme driving on dirt roads and winding off-road roads.
There are also notable innovations in the braking and suspension systems.
At the front there is a powerful caliper Brembo with four pistons combined with a disc 310 mm. While the new cartridge fork from 41 mm it offers good travel and above all more reliability in off-road use.
At the rear we find a double shock absorber with adjustable preload.

First impressions

Aesthetically it is truly very fascinating, the body double exhaust it is his trademark and it is the element that is most striking at first glance.
The attention to the smallest detail is easily noticeable.
There are no plastic elements and those that usually are, in this case are all in aluminum finished almost obsessively.
As soon as we get on the saddle, we immediately notice the comfort of the very simple and relaxing riding position, facilitated by the new aluminum handlebar, which is wider than the previous model.
The triangulation is perfect and guarantees a pleasant and comfortable ride, both for shorter and taller people, significantly broadening the target of possible users.
The controls are simple and easy to manage, while the instrumentation is very minimalist, made up of a single circular element, composed of an analogue part and a small display where you can conveniently check the main information in detail.
The only flaw is the passenger seat which is too small for a motorbike of this kind which is very suitable both for pleasant trips out of town and for daily city use even as a couple.

In the street

At first glance, the Street scrambler it might seem like a lighter bike than its actual dry weight, about 200 kg, let's say not exactly light, but once on the road this weight is not noticeable at all, in fact when we were ready we had the sensation of riding the classic single-cylinder enduro bikes of the eighties, obviously with a smaller displacement, light and agile especially in mixed terrain and equipped with a pleasant and balanced couple.
On city routes it moves with extreme ease, the width of the handlebars greatly facilitates quick and safe changes of direction.
But it is on state roads, especially those characterized by narrow mixed routes, that its excellent handling characteristics are best demonstrated.
The front wheel from 19 guarantees a clean and round setting in the curves with good mileage.
The delivery is fluid and the torque, very sweet, is already felt at medium-low speeds, giving rise to a pleasant and perfect driving sensation, which does not require pulling too much because it would only be useless.
The braking system is very powerful but at the same time balanced and easily modulated.
The small size of the tank, with a capacity of only 12 liters, unfortunately they greatly limit its autonomy. This lack, however, is in contrast with the consumption, which was found during our test to be around 25 km/l, therefore very good.

Conclusions

We can say that overall it is certainly an excellent product, with a good quality-price ratio, given that we are talking about about € 11.000 on the road.
It is a vehicle that we can recommend to a very large audience, even to those who have not picked up the motorbike for a long time, furthermore, it also winks at the pink quotas, given its ease of driving.
It should be underlined that the parent company offers the possibility of customizing the motorbike with an infinite range of original accessories, making it a unique and inimitable piece.
