Triumph chose the British Grand Prix of MotoGP to celebrate the return of the brand to the Olympus of motorcycle racing for the 2019 season. Triumph, in fact, will be the official engine supplier of the class Moto2 and to celebrate this transition it has organized a series of events that will liven up the English weekend.

Between guided tours and solidarity

The first event was on Wednesday with an official visit from seven riders from Moto2 and one from Moto3 – Luca Marini (ITA-Sky Racing Team VR46), Sam Lowes (GBR-Swiss Innovative Investors), Danny Kent (GBR-+Ego Speed Up Racing Team), Isaac Viñales (SPA-Forward Racing Team), Bo Bendsneyder (NED-Tech 3 Racing Team) and Joe Roberts (USA-NTS RW Racing GP) and Moto3 John McPhee (CIP – Green Power) – at the Triumph factory, visited the historic line of the most famous Triumph racing motorcycles and discovered the final version of the Triumph engine developed for Moto2, which will be presented on the track just before the Moto2TM race at the British Grand Prix.

On Thursday 23 August, however, Triumph supported "Two Wheels for life" in raising funds to support two important humanitarian causes in Africa, with two Triumph experiences that can only be achieved once in a lifetime. The grand prize winner will have the chance to take part in a global Triumph press launch of a new motorcycle in Southern Europe. All travel expenses will be covered and the winner will be among the first in the world – and the only member of the general public – to drive a new model before it goes on sale.

And tomorrow…

Just before tomorrow's Moto2 race, Sunday 26 August, former Superbike World Champion and BT Sport MotoGP commentator James Toseland will ride the prototype Triumph engine, featuring the eye-catching Union Jack, on a parade lap out front to thousands of fans. This marks a significant moment in Triumph's racing history with the new 765cc Triple Motor2 race engine being shown for the first time at an official race weekend. Before the parade lap, the prototype Triumph Moto2 engine will be on display in the Go-ProTM stand.

Triumph and competitions

Under a three-year contract with Dorna – the commercial rights holder of MotoGP – Triumph has committed to supplying a race-dedicated 765cc Triumph Triple engine, based on the engine from the 2017 Triumph Street Triple.
The new powerplant represents a significant development of the Daytona 675R engine, which won Supersport races at the Isle of Man TT, Daytona 200 and British Supersport trophies in 2014 and 2015. Based on the company's highest specification 765cc powerplant Street Triple RS, the Triumph Moto2 Triple Race engine has been developed and tuned for a major step forward in power and torque with a number of important modifications, such as the revision of the cylinder head intake and exhaust ports to optimize flow of gas, the adoption of titanium valves and harder valve springs to increase engine rpm, the introduction of the alternator kit with lower output to reduce inertia, longer first gear ratios, an anti-slipper clutch developed for racing which will be adjustable, a specific ECU for races that will be developed with Magneti Marelli, engine crankcases revised to reduce the width and the inclusion of a different oil sump to allow optimal passage of the exhaust manifolds.

In street configuration the new 765cc engine in the class-leading Street Triple RS offers the highest level of performance for a Street Triple of all time; power output of 123 HP at 11.700 rpm. and torque 77 Nm at 10.800 rpm. The race specification Triumph 765cc Moto2 engine has been further developed to allow the engine to breathe more freely and rev harder than the production bike to increase overall performance. Other changes were made specifically to adapt the engine for racing use.
