Triumph New Modern Classic: how they fare, prices and features [TEST RIDE]

The right mix of tradition and technology

On the occasion of the new "Triumph Adventure Experience" initiative, try some Steet Twin models which offer a certain ease of driving and offer sensations of freedom and fun, but also Scrambler 1200 XC. An ambivalent motorcycle, without limits on and off asphalt

As part of the important event “Triumph Adventure Experience” organized by the historic English house inBeyond Pavese, to present the news of 2019, I had the pleasure of testing two models from the range Triumph New Modern Classic. Precisely versions of Street twin e Scrambler 1200 XC which I'll tell you about below.
The starting point was the suggestive location of the Castle of San Gaudenzio, to then undertake a mixed road circuit of around a hundred kilometres, passing through both flat towns and winding hilly stretches in order to test the two vehicles as best as possible in multiple different road situations.

Street Twin, the best-selling custom of the brand

Compared to the previous, dated model 2016, the power is increased by 10 CV, therefore it is more responsive at low revs while simultaneously maintaining fluid torque and the classic sound of the traditional English twin-cylinder engine.
The finishes have been treated in detail, like new ones aluminum inserts, including i multi-spoke rims, which gave it a more contemporary style.
Riding comfort is good, resulting from the right triangulation, the saddle is comfortable, both for the driver and the passenger, perhaps an extra centimeter of thickness would have guaranteed greater comfort over long distances.
The handlebar of the right width guarantees an adequate riding position and the controls are simple and easy to manage, such as reading the minimal, integrated instrumentation of a small digital display.
On the road it gave me the feeling of easy handling, especially when changing direction, despite its weight about 200 kg. The new Brembo front braking system together with the fork equipped with a cartridge shock absorber guarantees good reaction even in extreme conditions.
The torque-assisted clutch relieves fatigue when driving on mixed terrain and especially over long distances, where the gearbox is used more.
The driving comfort and fluidity of the engine give a feeling of freedom and fun, even for beginners in this genre, but if you go beyond the meter and 75 tall, the driving position begins to be less comfortable.

Particular attention must be given to the discussion relating to the electronics, certainly one of the most important innovations developed on this custom, aligned with the modern needs required by the market: the double road/rain mapping, theABS and traction control give greater safety in any driving condition, while the USB socket placed under the saddle, it guarantees the charging of any electronic device.
From a personal point of view, I can recommend this model especially to those who want to approach the custom genre for the first time but also to those who want a motorcycle that is easy to ride and comfortable, both for trips out of town and for long distances, probably some an extra liter in the tank wouldn't have been bad in this sense, furthermore I think it's very interesting to be able to customize it to the maximum by combining over 140 accessories originals in order to obtain a unique "piece", especially for the more egocentric like myself. Starting price from €8.950,00.

Scrambler 1200 XC, the evolution of a classic from the English company

A new model created to take the concepts of a motorcycle born in the extreme Years' 60.
The style is unmistakable scrambler, at the same time raw and elegant to keep up with the times.
The engine twin cylinder parallel High Power delivers a power of 90 CV, with an incredible torque specifically designed for medium-low rpm in order to immediately exploit its potential on any type of terrain, especially in off-road.
Once you get in you realize the robustness of the vehicle and the high ground clearance aimed at ensuring great agility even on the most tortuous routes.
The handlebar is very wide and the controls, despite the numerous functions, have been simplified to be able to be managed easily. The instrumentation is totally digital, in this regard it is important to point out that with the sun against it it is difficult to read.
During the road test, I was able to see the high torque at low revs, especially on the mixed uphill route. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to try it off-road, but the road conditions suggest that it is certainly a lot of fun and set up especially for this use.

The dual disc radial front braking system Brembo together with the fork, it guarantees excellent reaction, making changes of direction as easy as possible.
The front suspension has a very long stroke, while at the rear the top-level adjustable double Olhins shock absorber provides perfect stability.
The technology and above all the electronics are the most interesting and complete elements of this model, among which it is important to point out: 6 driving modes, Full LED lighting, including front light DRL, intuitive backlit blocks a 5-way joystick, assisted clutch, ignition keyless, cruise control, USB charging socket, integrated GoPro management system, navigation system turn-by-turn, phone control and music Bluetooth activated by an optional connectivity module.
I would recommend this model to those who want the top of philosophy scrambler, the price (starting from €14.500,00) might seem slightly high compared to competitors, but the technological and above all electronic equipment more than justify it. Also in this case you have the unique opportunity to be able to personalize it to the maximum by combining it with more 80 original accessories.
