Tony Cairoli scores a double in Belgium

Tony Cairoli he won the Belgian Grand Prix of the class MX1, held on Sunday 17 June on the Bastogne circuit, in Wallonia, and valid as the eighth round of the 2012 world championship. A spirited and determined Cairoli who won in his own way, clearly dominating both heats, thus giving another great satisfaction to the colors Sidi Sport.

The five-time world champion thus gave a strong signal to all his opponents, going on to win in Belgium at the home of his number one rival, Clemente Desalle, second today in the final ranking of the grand prix, third in both heats.

The track was new to everyone but the number one in world motocross had no problems. Tony Cairoli riding his KTM accompanied by his inseparable boots Sidi Crossfire, in the first heat, dominated right from the start, he preceded the Frenchman Gautier Paulin (Kawasaki) and the Belgian Clement Desalle (Suzuki). In the second heat the rider from Messina preceded the Frenchman Christophe Pourcel (Kawasaki), the Belgian Clement Desalle (Suzuki), the Belgian Kevin Stijbos (KTM) and the Russian Evgeny Bobryshev (Honda).

The general classification of the world championship at the halfway point, after eight grands prix out of the sixteen scheduled, sees Tony Cairoli in first place ahead of everyone who with 345 points has a good margin of advantage over the second who is Clement Desalle with 298 points. Following are Christophe Pourcel in third with 292 points and Gautier Paulin in fourth with 289 points.

“I'm happy to have won in Belgium, which is my second home and the home of this sport; I wanted to get on the top step of the podium in this race – explains Cairoli -. I did it and in addition to the victory I gained important points for the classification. I knew it was important to start well and I succeeded. In the first heat everything went right. I started in the lead and pulled ahead of my opponents and then managed the advantage. In the second heat I recovered, taking care not to make any mistakes. Then once in the lead I managed to take a bit of an advantage over Desalle and manage until the finish line."
