Tony Cairoli he won the Belgian Grand Prix of the class MX1, held on Sunday 17 June on the Bastogne circuit, in Wallonia, and valid as the eighth round of the 2012 world championship. The general classification of the world championship at the halfway point, after eight grands prix out of the sixteen scheduled, sees Tony Cairoli in first place ahead of everyone who with 345 points has a good margin of advantage over the second who is Clement Desalle with 298 points. Following are Christophe Pourcel in third with 292 points and Gautier Paulin in fourth with 289 points.

“I'm happy to have won in Belgium, which is my second home and the home of this sport; I wanted to get on the top step of the podium in this race – explains Cairoli -. I did it and in addition to the victory I gained important points for the classification. I knew it was important to start well and I succeeded. In the first heat everything went right. I started in the lead and pulled ahead of my opponents and then managed the advantage. In the second heat I recovered, taking care not to make any mistakes. Then once in the lead I managed to take a bit of an advantage over Desalle and manage until the finish line."
