TomTom Rider 550: TomTom Road Trips, discovering new itineraries [5 THINGS TO KNOW – EPISODE 5]

Last chapter of #5Things to Know dedicated to the new TomTom Rider 550 motorcycle navigator. We are talking about TomTom Road Trips, a new way to discover and share the most beautiful itineraries to travel by motorbike

TomTom MyDrive is enriched with further pieces, useful for searching, sharing and planning your adventures on the motorbike. In addition to Route Planner, with Road Trips it is now possible to filter the ones you like most within a catalog of itineraries and find them preloaded on the Rider 550 with one click

TomTom Road Trips comes alongside Route Planner, a system that has long allowed you to manage your own routes and specific points, saving them among your favourites, either because they are points of interest (POI) or because they are regularly frequented places. We remind you that your routes can be recorded, saved and shared, or you can upload them from the network (Rider Route Collection) or from friends who send them to us. Everything is managed by TomTom MyDrive, a cloud area that can be accessed with your user account and which can be used from your PC, mobile phone and which is synchronized with the Rider 550.

Increasingly a tool for planning trips and holidays, rather than "trivially" taking us to our destination

We have already talked about the advanced features of the Rider 550, which are made available thanks to the integrated connectivity, be it Wi-Fi or by Bluetooth. TomTom has been developing for some time MyDrive, cloud accessible from an Internet browser and from all your devices, which are synchronized and therefore share routes, points of interest and much more. Thus it is possible to navigate, comfortably sitting at the PC at home or in the office, on the map in search of the destination or building an itinerary, and then send it in an instant to the Rider and set off on an adventure, or simply towards a destination to reach in the shortest time possible. With a sort of evolution of Rider Route Collection, with which users could share their itineraries, TomTom Road Trips was born. What is it about? Basically a catalog of routes, archived by place and type, divided into categories (coastal, mountain and so on), as well as linking them to the geographical area and with indications on duration in time and length in kilometres, as well as combined with photos "explanatory notes" of the route or landscape and a brief description. The routes are preloaded by TomTom itself, which chooses the best itineraries in the world, but those taken by the Community are also present. In this case a judgment system with "likes and dislikes" makes it possible to vote if you know the route, or have a yardstick to be able to choose better.

Once you have selected a route, you can click on the “Customize in MyDrive” button. At this point you can share this itinerary directly, saving it among your own or sending it to someone, even downloading a file in GPX, or modify it freely. In addition to the list of intermediate points, which can be decreased or increased by inserting new ones, you can act on parameters such as slope (with more steep or less mountainousness), winding, therefore opting for the fastest or most exciting route, but also select whether we want to travel the itinerary by motorbike, or by car, camper or truck. You can then enter any points to avoid and, once the various operations have been completed, send the route to the Rider 550 or share it, and then enjoy a trip with maximum adrenaline levels or a super relaxing one.

TomTom Road Trips can thus make weekend motorbike rides more enjoyable, avoiding getting nervous and wasting time looking in vain for a satisfying route, but it can also become a starting point for defining your own holidays, perhaps a few tens of kilometers from home, but even a few thousand, to discover the most beautiful roads in the world.

This concludes our #5Things to Know. We hope to have given you all the elements to introduce you to the new TomTom Rider 550, which you can find in specialized shops, but which you will be able to touch first hand, together with the many TomTom products dedicated to the world of two wheels, at the next edition of Eicma. Known to all of us as the most important motorcycle fair in the world, Eicma is actually an acronym for "International Motorcycle Cycle and Accessories Exhibition". It represents the marketing tool of ANCMA, the Confindustria trade association, which includes the most prestigious companies in the sector. EICMA, since its first edition in 1914, has taken place in Milan and is confirmed as the most visited event in the world in terms of number of exhibitors, visitors, operators and press. In this context, a leading company in the sector such as TomTom could not be missing, which will be present at the Interphone stand (HALL 13 – STAND N72), a brand part of the Cellularline group, distributor for motorcycle navigation in Italy. The Dutch manufacturer will bring all its products dedicated to the world of two wheels to Eicma and, perhaps, also with some interesting innovations.
