Sym Cruisym α 300: lots of practicality and substance at a very attractive price [TEST RIDE]

Cruisym 300 with Euro 5 engine on test

There are many scooters and the medium displacement market is particularly crowded. Sym proposes Cruisym α 300 for those who want a vehicle capable of moving well even outside the city, practical and with a really interesting price.

Aesthetics and Design

The Cruisym α line has very decisive features and well-proportioned volumes that give this scooter a rather aggressive look and personal. At the front you can immediately notice the full led lights and the carbon-like finishes of the central section of the shield and the mirrors, which pair very well with the matte blue tint of the specimen under test. Always with the carbon texture then we find the platforms, large but with a large central tunnel, and the left engine crankcase which contains the transmission. On the right side there is the exhaust well inserted into the lines of the scooter considering that this 300 cc engine is approved Euro 5. The saddle is wide for both the pilot and the passenger flanked by two practical handles. Under the seat we find a compartment under the saddle able to contain two full face helmets which is also illuminated, while behind the front shield we have a compartment also equipped with USB socket to recharge your smartphone or navigator.

Instrumentation

Cruisym α 300 has the fully digital color instrumentation, which reports all the information relating to the engine such as i rpm, the battery voltage, the coolant temperature and obviously the fuel level. We also find the warning light relating to TCS, or al traction control which can also be deactivated here with the dedicated button on the left block.

Engine and chassis

Cruisym α has a 278,3cc engine liquid-cooled single-cylinder capable of delivering 26 cv at 7.500 rpm e 26,2 Nm of maximum torque at 6.750 rpm. This unit is accompanied by the classic one automatic transmission with variator and centrifugal clutch. Even from the point of view of the chassis, the configuration is the one common to this type of vehicle and therefore with steel frame, traditional 41mm front fork and double rear shock absorber adjustable spring preload. The overall length is 2.175 mm, with a seat height of 760 mm and a curb weight of 194 kg.

Driving

Riding the Cruisym 300 Alpha you are rather collected, with the narrow handlebars both in width and as the angle between the handles. The saddle is padded with rather rigid materials and covered with vinyl which guarantees a good grip on the seat. The suspensions have a discordant behavior between front and rear, in fact the fork is set very soft and absorbs city potholes well, while the pair of shock absorbers posterior is rigid using the scooter solo but it quickly tends to reach the end of its ride when the passenger is also present. Good performance guaranteed by the engine with consistently consistent acceleration and recovery and a maximum speed of 140 km/h. The functioning of the broadcast it's good, without tears and constant in city use even when always starting at full acceleration. The protection from the air is sufficient  for the torso, while the face remains exposed and poorly protected by the adjustable front windshield (using tools). The brakes are good, with progressive functioning and homogeneous between front and rear both as a response and as an effort at the lever.

Pricing

The list price for Cruisym α 300 is 5.499 euros with 4 year Manufacturers Guarantee and roadside assistance included, also valid for accidents or punctures. By September 30th however, it is possible to purchase it in promotion to 4.799 euro, always ex-dealership, which makes it extremely competitive and with a really interesting quality/price ratio.
