A new 776 cc parallel twin engine

Suzuki exhibition on the occasion of EICMA, the International Two Wheel Exhibition at Rho Fiera Milano, two new medium-sized models. Together with the new street fighter GSX-8S is also introduced V-strom 800DE.

A new concept for adventure lovers

La V-strom 800DE how the GSX-8S took shape around a new technical platform that will also be a protagonist for the years to come. The project is animated by a 776 cc parallel twin engine with 270° crank mechanism and distribution with four valves per cylinder. An engine with an advanced patented system to reduce vibrations, which can also be inserted on different models. In the case of the all-terrain V-Strom 800DE, the robust thrust stands out.
As on the most recent models of the Hamamatsu brand, the engine is managed in an integrated manner with the on-board electronics by Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS), recalling the various solutions:

– the “Scegliiltiro” system – Suzuki Drive Mode Selector – with three driving modes;
– the “Aprisereno” system – Suzuki Traction Control System adjustable on three levels and deactivated, the ride-by-wire accelerator;
– the “Cambiarapido” system – Bi-directional Quick Shift System;
– the Suzuki Easy Start System and “Partifacile” – Low RPM Assist devices
.

Thinking about the versatility of the V-Strom 800DE, the electronic traction control includes a specific mode G (Gravel), added to the three standard ones to allow the rear wheel to slip at different levels during acceleration. This also has an ABS system which allows you to select two operating logics and possibly exclude the anti-lock function on the rear wheel.

The specialised farming model

This new specimen Sports Enduro Tourer represents a new step in the production history of the historic DR-Z. The connotative style of the production can be recognised, observing the design of the LED headlights topped by a three-position adjustable windshield. The bike is available in three color varieties: Petra Yellow, Berlin Gray and Dubai Black and the standard equipment for the Italian market includes hand guards, a protective grille for the radiator and a rigid plastic tip for the engine. There is also a large catalog of original accessories.

Looking at the instruments, a command bridge with a stands out TFT LCD color multifunction display and a variable section handlebar that outlines an optimal triangulation with the saddle and the large rubber-covered footrests. The seat features substantial padding, reportedly to support the comfort of the rider and a possible passenger. There are also handles integrated with the sturdy luggage rack supplied as standard.
Moving on to the chassis, the bike is equipped with a robust steel tube frame associated with Hitachi Astemo (Showa) suspension with a travel of 220 millimetres, adjustable in spring preload and hydraulic brake, compression and rebound. The preload of the monoshock can be changed via a knob.
The wheels are spoked and the measurements underline the versatile attitude of the model. The front one is from 21 inches with a 90/90 tire, the rear one from 17 inches with a 150/70 compound.

Motor

The new engine is compact with a low weight and functional structural characteristics to be able to power a new family of models. It is a 776cc parallel twin, as mentioned, equipped with DOHC twin-cam distribution with four valves per cylinder. The stroke is relatively long at 70 mm, offering progressive and linear delivery.
Among the peculiar aspects there is the 270° crank mechanism, a scheme which, based on the peculiar sequence of bursts, allows you to combine a favorable torque curve for a full-bodied and characterizing sound.
The technicians also focused on limiting vibrations by defining an innovative patented Suzuki Cross Balancer system. A solution characterized by the use of two rocker arms positioned at 90° with respect to the crankshaft, each capable of canceling the vibrations generated by a single cylinder. The engine is associated with a six-speed gearbox with a different ratio for this example compared to the street fighter GSX-8S, but in both cases associated with an assisted clutch with an anti-hopping system.
The power summit reaches 84,3 horses (62 kW) at 8.500 rpm, with a torque of 78 Nm at 6.800 rpm in compliance with Euro 5 regulations.
