Stray dog: the Municipality of Sciacca will have to compensate 350 thousand euros

Stray dog – The Municipality of Sciacca, in the province of Agrigento, was sentenced to pay 350 thousand euros in compensation for damages to the parents and brothers of Salvatore Ciancimino, a 26-year-old pizza chef, who died in a road accident in January 2007 caused by a dog stray.

The sentence is by judge Filippo Marasà of the Sciacca court. The young man's family had requested compensation of 2 million euros. The victim, on board a Honda 600, had lost control of the motorbike after hitting a stray dog ​​which had crossed him. The Municipality, which appeared in court, was held responsible for not having avoided the presence of animals along the road.

The plague of stray dogs, an increasingly growing trend, therefore raises issues not only of urban order, but also of road safety. In fact, more and more quadrupeds are becoming victims of accidents on busy roads, a dangerous fact both for the animals themselves and for car drivers. In India, for this reason, they are thinking of a practical solution to the problem: luminous collars, so that the presence of dogs on the road is always evident.
