Snow chains? Not for motorcycles and mopedsSnow chains? Not for motorcycles and mopeds

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, in agreement with the Traffic Police, has prepared a directive addressed to the bodies that own or license roads, to clarify that the obligation to have chains and anti-slip equipment on board for driving on snow or ice DOES NOT AFFECT MOTORCYCLES AND MOPEDS.

This directive is completing the necessary administrative process before it can be issued.

This was clarified by the Traffic Police, in a letter addressed to the FMI, in response to the repeated requests made by the Federation to the Ministry of Transport and to the Traffic Police itself.

In fact, from November 15th to April 15th, on many roads there is an obligation for all vehicles to circulate "prepared" to face any emergencies caused by snow or ice. But winter tires and chains are not available for motorbikes and this creates a clear contradiction and exposes the owners of these vehicles to the risk of sanctions.

The aforementioned letter demonstrates the awareness that this is a problem to be solved by the Traffic Police and the Ministry of Transport. We hope that this will happen very quickly.

“We have always monitored the problem – comments the President of the IMF, Paolo Sesti – and the letter received from the Traffic Police comforts us and confirms that our position is correct. In the hope that the problem will be definitively resolved in the shortest possible time, I feel it is my duty to officially thank all the people we involved, within the two bodies mentioned, who listened to us and facilitated a positive solution".
