Scooters counterfeited by the Chinese, Finance at EICMA 2011
Not just watches, bags and accessories. Even scooters end up in the crosshairs of chinoiserie and cloning attempts. And without too much worry, the copied models go on display at EICMA 2011, the international motorcycle show currently taking place in Milan.
It was therefore inevitable for the Rho Company of the Guardia di Finanza to seize that model Chinese three-wheeled scooter as it is "very similar" toMP3 from Piaggio. In particular, it is the YB 250 ZKT, produced by Kaitong Motor under the Yiben brand, which was hastily evacuated from pavilion 10 of the fair.
What was surprising was not only the similarity (even the mechanics of the original motorbike would have been imitated with the independent and tilting front wheels that facilitate corner entry), but also the lack of elegance in the decision to expose the scooter to a handful of meters from the Piaggio stand.
The Pontedera company, in thanking the Fiamme Gialle "for the activity carried out to protect the industrial property rights and design of Italian companies", highlighted how "the design of the product is very similar to the community model relating to the MP3 scooter ” of its ownership and which, as such, “may constitute counterfeiting”.
In any case, the Chinese patrol present at the 69th edition of EICMA was not limited to Kaitong Motor and the alleged counterfeiting case. In fact, there are among the exhibitors Baotian Motorcycle, Huoniao, Meiduo, Rhon, Sanyou, Senke, Zhen Hua Manufacture, Znen Motor, Zontes.
