Free access on the motorway and ring roads also for 125 motorcycles.

This, in a nutshell, is the tastiest news contained in the draft law for the reform of the highway code, approved by the Transport Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. Now the text will have to return to the Senate, where the entire framework of the road reorganization is already present, to be fully implemented and ratified. In the decree, reference would also be made to new possibilities for bicycles: in the future the bus lanes should also be made usable for bicycles. Thanks to this important implementation, Italy would adapt to the European level where similar rules have already been in force for some time.

The news of this maneuver was reported by Ancma (National Association of Cycle and Motorcycle Accessories) at the same time as the release of some declarations which point to the recognition of substantially greater safety for motorcyclists: «As it separates them from ordinary traffic and has been borrowed from the experience of other European cities, such as London», said a spokesperson. In addition to these innovations, the traffic sector should also be strengthened by some specific measures for the identification of bicycles and motorcycles during their access to the new travel areas, such as for example the marking of the vehicle with a detectable alphanumeric code.

The enabling law also promotes the introduction of provisions for the improvement of sections of roads and motorways, aimed at positively influencing the driving of bicycles and motorcycles. Among these measures, the limitation of the presence of fixed artificial obstacles on the roadside, such as sign supports and guardrails, certainly stands out.
