Polini: a series of solutions that liven up the Piaggio and Vespa 50 4T Euro 5 models

Polini and specimens Piaggio o Wasp they have been creating sparkling symbiosis for over seventy years and capturing the attention of two-wheel enthusiasts. An example of a Vespa with Polini solutions can be distinguished by its lively acceleration and robust recovery. To obtain this lively character we start by replacing the original control unit with the Polini ECM “ENGINE CONTROL MODULE” with valve springs, and then opt between some alternatives.

Defined thanks to feedback from the Polini racing department, the update allows the choice between three different mappings, allowing the scooter to be customized according to needs. There first map represents the simplest level, just remove the original control unit and insert theECM Polini for Wasp e Liberty 50 4T Euro 5, since it is one plug & play electronic control unit. The replacement alone allows an increase in the rpm limiter from 7.500 to 8.100. With this mapping it is possible to maintain the original Piaggio engine, but it is recommended to match the Polini variator and muffler. Fitting the Hi-Speed ​​variator allows a slight increase in speed and acceleration. The Polini Original muffler is characterized by lines that recall the original one and is entirely made of steel. The mapping projects the peak speed from 45 km/h to 50/53 km/h.
For the Polini ECM a retail price is indicated of 255,00 euros + VAT, while for the variator the figure is 65,77 euros + VAT and for the muffler 210,00 euros + VAT.


La second mapping allows for greater customization, further increasing the performance level. To adopt it you need to rely on a professional in the sector, since you are working on the engine. It is necessary to change the original valve springs of the engine and replace the Polini ones already included in the control unit package. The limiter reaches 10.000 rpm, as highlighted on this occasion. This mapping works with the original heart, but it is still recommended to combine the Polini variator, the Polini muffler and the Polini oversized air filter sleeve. This new step allows you to reach 56/60 km/h. The oversized air filter sleeve is offered at a retail price of 22 euros + VAT.

Once the second step has been carried out, with a further step you can also opt for the map number three and obtain, for example, a Vespa capable of reaching a maximum speed of 70/75 km/h. The basis of this new intervention is the cylinder kit with a diameter of 49 millimetres, which brings the engine to approximately 80 cc, with the obligatory Polini extended ratios to define the framework. Superior performance is highlighted in acceleration and maximum speed, given an increase in maximum speed of 50%. Even with this mapping we recommend the combination of a Polini variator, muffler and oversized air filter sleeve.
For the thermal unit kit, the retail price is 294 euros + VAT; for extended ratios 80,62 euros + VAT.

It is also specified that the introduction of valve springs, inside the package, allows the limiter to reach 10.000 rpm with a concrete result in speed and an increase in performance that supports dynamic driving. Based on the assembly steps, the matching of the specific map defined by Polini is crucial.
