When they made them, Pirelli's engineers had in mind bikes like BMW R 1200 GS e Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré that is, large-displacement road enduros. However the new ones Scorpion Rally tyres they are also suitable for two-wheelers with an off-road vocation.

The new measurements are 150/70-17 for the rear and 110/80-19 for the front. In the first case, wider blocks with long transverse bridges were preferred, designed to ensure greater traction on soft terrain and to eliminate the slipping effect. In the second, Pirelli chose this height to make handling and stability more effective both on sand and, in general, on soft terrain. There are three guarantees offered by the Milanese manufacturer for a tire capable of combining stability on the road with high mileage, i.e. longer life and more regular failure: greater traction, less wear of the blocks and tear resistance.

The vibrations of large enduro bikes at high speeds should then become a memory again. The use of a carcass with thick canvas strings should guarantee greater lateral rigidity. Despite the knobby tread, it is a balanced and predictable tire even on asphalt.

The Scorpion Rally's CV includes the conquest of the 2009 edition of the Dakar and the victory of the 2011 Cross Country Rally world title with the Portuguese driver Helder Rodriguez.
