A project, born from the involvement of Pirelli and Italian Motorcycling Federation, allowed 21 motorcycle test riders of the tire company to achieve an interesting result. Highlighting safety, during a course organized in the Pirelli proving ground in Pergusa, the test riders of the motorbike testing department attended the lessons of the Federmoto experts and in the end obtained the qualification of Federal Instructors, its road and off-road. Il Pirelli motorcycle testing department it has been operating for 40 years and is a reference example at an international level for constant technical training and investments, linked to safety and the network of contacts with motorcycle manufacturers. For over twenty years, Pirelli motorcycle testing has collaborated on the growth of airbag systems with the main companies in the sector and the test riders were among the first in the world to introduce the airbag as a standard component within the equipment.

The activity of the Pirelli motorcycle testing department carries out every year 8.000 trials of behavior for a total of approximately 600.000 kilometers travelled, as highlighted on the occasion. Thinking about constant product quality, the testing department requires continuous technical and operational training and Pirelli values ​​its staff by investing in active and passive safety, as well as training.

I Training courses of the Italian Motorcycle Federation held by Technical field They consist of in-depth theoretical and practical sessions. These are courses structured on average over three days with classroom, on-site and dynamic lessons. The Pergusa plant was used according to training and safe driving objectives. During the theory, various topics were discussed including physics, motorcycle dynamics and first aid, as well as other cutting-edge topics such as physiology, psychology and biomechanics of the motorcyclist. An activity in which the specific role of the test driver was always kept in mind. Moving on to the practical part, the sessions were adapted to the high level of preparation of Pirelli personnel. The level of skill required and found in the phases on the square was rather high, focused on the management of the motorbike and the hours of Safe Driving both on asphalt and off-road were particularly intense also from a technical point of view, as reported on the occasion.

Organized by the Technical Management Coordinator of Federmoto and Federal Councilor Raffaele Prisco and held by the FMI Federal Instructors Alex De Angelis (former MotoGP and Superbike rider) in the field of road riding and Davide Degli Esposti (former Italian and European supercross champion) for the part off-road, the course also represented an opportunity for Pirelli and the Italian Motorcycle Federation to discuss the working methodology which led to mutual enrichment.
