Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa V4: the fourth generation of a sports concept in two versions [PHOTO]

The SC and SP variants

The tires Pirelli DIABLO™ Supercorsa V4 they represent a further evolution of a design history that places sportsmanship at the centre. A progression that can be enjoyed by those who love dynamism on two wheels. After the announcement last September, both versions will be available starting from January SP designed for mainly road use, be that SC in different compounds for use on the track.

The new generation

With the introduction of DIABLO Super Corsa V4, Pirelli completes the renewal of the fourth generation of the DIABLO racing and sports range which began in 2021 with the example RED DIABLO IV and continued in 2022 with RED DIABLO IV Corsa. The abbreviation V4 in the product name underlines the fourth series. A completely new example in comparison with the previous DIABLO Supercorsa V3, both observing the tread design and moving on to the profiles, structures and the compounds, structures and profiles themselves.
In the version SC and in that SP, the new Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa V4 contains technology that supports high performance and the highest safety standards, interacting with the most sophisticated assistance systems. It represents the result of twenty years of studies, developments and evaluations in the FIM Superbike World Championship. A tire also defined through the suggestions of great champions and defined with the support of the manufacturers and teams present in the important competition for derivatives of the series.

Both variants share the tread design, the profiles and partly the compounds and some technological solutions regarding the structure. The Pirelli DIABLO Supercorsa SC V4 is offered in three compounds for the front and also for the rear, while the DIABLO Supercorsa SP V4 is dual-compound at the front and rear.
The tread design features a broken "Flash" pattern, which optimizes water evacuation and footprint. The orientation of the Flash pattern follows the direction of lateral and longitudinal forces during track riding, ensuring more even wear and consistent performance, as well as reduced warm-up time. Then the slick section, where the pattern is interrupted, affects the rigidity of the tread, limiting the risk of deformation of the grooves and supporting better thrust regardless of the lean angle, as underlined. Furthermore, the first shoulder area, almost completely free of grooves, provides greater contact between the tire and the road surface, while the extreme shoulder area, entirely slick, strengthens the thrust at extreme lean angles.

Moving on to the profiles, we highlight the same racing ones defined in the Superbike World Championship, which concern the slick DIABLO Superbike tire and the other fourth generation hypersport tyres. These are multi-radius profiles in light of rapid changes of direction, while the slick shoulder area promises high grip and cornering stability. The front profile improves handling and is designed to offer stability, thanks to the extended contact area during bending. The rear one follows the same pattern and a similar geometry to that of the front, in order to obtain a synchronized action. In the DIABLO Supercorsa SP V4 the bead of the front tire is designed to provide high performance with both road pressures and pressures for track use (2,3 Bar front / 2,1 Bar rear with hot tyres), as indicated. The possibility of reducing tire pressure for track sessions distinguishes the DIABLO Supercorsa SP V4 from the other tires in the Pirelli hypersport overview.
Furthermore, the SC variant shares the structure with the slick DIABLO Superbike example and also the functional materials for maximum performance and greater ease of riding with the use of specific pressures. Furthermore, compared to its predecessor, the new V4 tire is characterized by new materials such as structural cords with a wider section, defined by a high number of interwoven textile filaments to ensure superior rigidity to the tyre, as well as finer damping qualities, as specified on the occasion. Moving on to the SP version, each size has its own structure developed to obtain reference performance in light of the specific width of the profile, the layout of the tread design and the proportions of the compound. The structure of the SP tire is optimized for road use and for long straight journeys on motorways.

The two types

On the Pirelli portal there is more information on the available sizes of the versions.
In summary, for the Pirelli DIABLO Supercorsa SC V4 the initials SC indicates “Special Compound” and represents the best and most high-performance grooved track tire made to date. Given the different compounds available, the new DIABLO Supercorsa SC V4 can be used by professional, semi-professional or enthusiast drivers, all intending to improve their performance without having to set up the vehicle.
Compared to the V3 model, the following stand out: the tread design with the evolution of the patented Flash, in order to obtain a homogeneous progression in lean and a refinement in performance consistency; racing profiles that support stability and handling; a racing structure for better support when exiting corners and newly developed functional compounds for maximum grip and high performance.

While the theme song SP of the Pirelli DIABLO Supercorsa SP V4 indicates “Sport Production”This is the sportiest tire in the range for road use. Compared to the SC model, this complies with all the regulatory constraints of the vehicles to which it can be combined including the speed index (W), it is also less sensitive to temperature as well as offering faster heating and higher mileage linked to the compounds, as underlined. A tire designed for motorcyclists who appreciate sporty riding.

The tread design, identical to that of the SC, features a new Flash pattern interrupted in the center by a slick area to obtain a more homogeneous progression at any lean angle and constant performance.
This tire is dual-compound at the front and rear for high grip when cornering and optimal thrust when exiting corners, as well as offering adequate mileage. The profiles, the same as those of the SC version, promise reactivity and response. Furthermore, there are latest generation structures that work with the compounds to obtain outstanding performance on the road and track by adjusting the pressures.
