Last weekend, at the Race Retro show in Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, the famous, or infamous, Petronas FP1 was sold for 31,275 pounds, approximately 36 thousand euros.

This is one of the road bikes produced for Petronas by the English studio MSX International, equipped with a Suter Racing 899.5cc engine with 127 HP at 10.000 rpm and 92 Nm of torque at 9700 rpm. The bike is equipped with Öhlins suspension, the suspension system is Brembo, while the fairings are entirely made of carbon. Although the motorcycle sold was built in 2003, it had never left the warehouse. Before the sale the motorbike was fully checked, even though it had only traveled 7 km. The hulls have been completely renovated.

As reported by the English site MCN, the sellers wrote in the ad: “The electronic dashboard is in perfect working order, the bike starts and runs cleanly and maintains good oil pressure. This is a very attractive and well-designed superbike by a rather optimistic group of enthusiasts. It's quite unlikely you'll see another one and it comes complete with homologation documentation and NOVA (Vehicle Arrival Notification).”

The history of the motorcycle. The bike was supposed to participate in the MotoGP, the original name was Petronas GP1, but the team, in the end, changed its budget and plans, deciding to throw itself into the Superbike World Championship. To participate in the championship, however, at least 150 specimens needed to be put on the market. For this reason, an attempt was made to produce the necessary specimens and production was divided into two parts, one in Malaysia and the other in England. The two productions traveled in parallel and never met. Made in England models became a rarity, until recently. In fact, dozens of models have recently been 'discovered' in a warehouse in Essex and after careful maintenance, like that carried out on the model above, they are about to be put on sale.
