Petronas FP1: the project

La Petronas FP1 it is a motorbike that was produced in 2003 at the behest of the then team of Formula 1 Sauber Petronas: it was a prototype with a 1000 cc engine, Harris chassis that was supposed to participate in the MotoGP (the original name was Petronas GP1), but the team, in the end, changed its budget and plans, deciding to throw itself into the world championship Superbike with a big “but”. The regulation required that the bikes entered in the championship have at least 150 sisters present on the market. For this reason, Sauber tried to quickly produce the necessary examples and divided production into two parts, one in Malaysia and the other in England. The two productions traveled in parallel and never met. Made in England models became a rarity, until recently. The society Lanzarote Motorsport he put them back into circulation and today they can easily be purchased with all their original equipment, made up of forks Ohlins, brake calipers Brembo with four pistons and a 130 horsepower engine for a weight of just 181 ko. Very luxurious stuff for the time.
